Job Description
As a vital member of our Environmental Services team, you will ensure our residents live in a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment. You will be responsible for the general upkeep of the building, including preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and groundskeeping, while strictly adhering to provincial health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Building Repairs: Perform minor plumbing, electrical, and HVAC repairs (e.g., fixing leaks, replacing light fixtures, troubleshooting heating/cooling units).
Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections of mechanical systems and resident care equipment (e.g., lifts, beds, tubs, etc.) to ensure compliance with Ministry of Health standards.
General Upkeep: Execute interior painting, drywall patching, and furniture assembly or relocation.
Groundskeeping: Manage seasonal outdoor tasks, including snow removal, salting walkways, and lawn maintenance.
Safety & Compliance: Participate in fire drills, monitor emergency alarm systems, and maintain accurate maintenance logs. Familiarity with Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) requirements. Responding to after hours emergencies.
Qualifications & Skills
· Education: Secondary school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent.
· Diploma in Healthcare Environmental Services Management preferred or Environmental Management Certificate or related discipline.
· Experience: Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience, preferably in a healthcare, residential, or commercial setting.
· Technical Skills: Proficiency with hand/power tools and basic knowledge of trades (carpentry, electrical, plumbing). Also, familiarity with heat pumps and boiler systems
· Certifications: Current WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety training; a valid Driver’s License.
· Communication: Ability to follow written instructions and communicate effectively with residents and staff. Foster a collaborative working relationship with hospital staff to limit clinical disruptions and ensure provision of care is not impacted. Familiar with Microsoft Office software.
· Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
