What can you expect from this position?
Reporting to the Associate Director, Accounting and Reporting, this position is responsible for managing the activities of the Corporate Accounting department, which entails external consolidated financial reporting and analysis. This position will be responsible for timely and accurate monthly and year end close reporting and analysis, ensuring compliance with current accounting principles, practices and procedures, and maintaining financial records to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
As Manager, Corporate Accounting, you will:
Lead the corporation’s external consolidated financial reporting and general ledger structure
Maintain an effective and efficient system of accounting records and internal controls for financial reporting in accordance with National Instrument 52-109
Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end financial close
Prepare and present communications on accounting issues
Keep up-to-date with developments in Canadian Accounting Standards and effectively lead and implement applicable changes in current accounting regulations and practices
Complete other monthly and annual regulatory filings and ensure filed within designated timelines
Liaise with government authorities and external and internal auditors
Respond to inquiries from senior management and other finance leads regarding financial results and special reporting requests
Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
Support the Controllership function with special projects and workflow process improvements
Manage the team and provide training to new and existing staff as needed
Handle personnel issues relating to staff
Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives annually and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff
Responsible for being a customer centric leader with respect to the Corporation’s Mission, Vision, Values and Beliefs
This is the role for you, if you have:
Professional accounting designation (e.g. CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce or other relevant field preferred
Prior experience in public accounting preferred
Experience using Oracle Financial systems
Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience in financial reporting for publicly accountable enterprises and internal controls over financial reporting
Minimum 3 years of experience in people management (direct report or cross-functional)
Demonstrated experience working in a customer centric environment
Industry experience or industry related experience (aviation, transportation, etc.) will be considered an asset
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills
Exceptional ability to build relationships and work cross-functionally
Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance.
