Manager – Port & Logistics Operations
• Oversees daily port activities, ensuring efficient cargo handling, vessel movement, and supply chain flow, managing budgets, enforcing safety/compliance (maritime laws, customs), coordinating with stakeholders (shipping lines, customs, authorities), and driving continuous improvement for operational excellence, efficiency, and asset management in a complex, high-pressure environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise cargo loading/unloading, vessel berthing, yard management, warehousing, and delivery logistics.
• Act as a liaison with shipping companies, customs, port authorities, clients, and subcontractors.
• Manage and optimize the daily logistics operations, including transportation, warehousing, and distribution.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with suppliers and vendors.
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
• Lead, train, and mentor logistics team members.
• Analyze logistics data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Prepare and manage budgets and financial reports.
• Handle customer inquiries and resolve issues related to logistics.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operations.
• Act as the primary point of contact between ports, terminal operators, transporters, customs agents, suppliers, and internal departments.
• Ensure close coordination between production, sales, SCM, and finance teams for smooth daily logistics operations at the plant.
• Liaise with customs authorities, port officials, and legal teams to resolve compliance, operational, or legal issues.
• Provide leadership and effective team handling at plant level.
• Manage and guide the logistics team administratively, ensuring discipline, productivity, and adherence to processes.
• Allocate daily tasks, monitor performance, and support team development.
• Track free days, container detention timelines, and port storage charges.
• Proactively manage and minimize demurrage, detention, and other logistics-related costs.
• Perform SCM cost analysis and route optimization to improve logistics efficiency.
• Meet cost optimization targets and continuously identify opportunities for savings and operational improvement.
• Ensure adherence to all maritime laws, safety regulations (HSSE), security protocols, and environmental standards.
• Monitor KPIs, analyze operational data, identify bottlenecks, and implement strategies to improve turnaround times, productivity, and resource allocation.
• Manage operational budgets, review cost reports, and prepare performance reports.
Preferred candidate profile
1. Graduate in Logistics or Supply Chain Management, or a related field with 10-15 Years of Experience in port operations, customs procedures, and import/export logistics.
2. Experience working closely with shipping lines, freight forwarders, terminal operators, and customs brokers.
3. Exposure to route optimization, cost-saving initiatives, and continuous improvement in SCM operations.
4. Hands-on experience in demurrage and detention management.
5. Leadership and team handling experience at plant or operational level.
6. Proficiency in SAP and strong working knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint, and reporting tools.
7. Excellent coordination, negotiation, and communication skills.
8. Strong analytical skills with a focus on cost control and operational efficiency.
9. Prior experience handling imported materials and factory-bound logistics.
10. Familiarity with customs and shipping documentation.
11. Experience with operational planning, data analysis, and performance metrics.
12. Strong leadership and team management skills.
13. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
14. Ability to work in a 24/7, high-pressure environment.
15. Understanding of safety & regulatory compliance.
16. Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
17. Proficiency in logistics software and MS Office.
18. Ability to work under pressure and handle emergencies.
