You have a Master’s Degree or pursuing a Master’s in K-12 Chinese Education/ Teaching Chinese as a World Language.
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Mandarin Teacher for K-12 students for the 2025-2026 academic year. The ideal candidate will have a passion for language education, cultural exchange, and fostering an engaging learning environment. This position offers an opportunity to inspire young learners and contribute to their linguistic and cultural development within a supportive educational setting. Prior university experience is preferred to ensure effective curriculum delivery and classroom management.
Duties
New York State Adolescent Chinese Education teaching certification is required. TRCS 2 will consider candidates that are either (a) already fully certified at the time of application or (b) on track to become fully certified by the first day of employment.
Understanding ACTFL and New York State World Language Checkpoints standards and proficiency guidelines
Native-like proficiency in Mandarin is a must.
FLES course completion is a plus.
STARTALK language teaching experience is a plus
Experience in working in an ICT classroom setting
Develop and implement engaging Mandarin language lessons aligned with curriculum standards for K-12 students
Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and confidence
Assess student progress regularly through assignments, tests, and interactive activities
Incorporate cultural elements into lessons to enhance language comprehension and appreciation
Collaborate with colleagues to design interdisciplinary projects and school-wide language initiatives
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and participation
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school events as required
Classroom Responsibilities
Guide and support The Renaissance community in fulfilling its mission and charter goals
Establish and maintain positive relationships and constructive interactions with students, families, colleagues, and administration
Create and maintain an engaging and organized physical classroom environment, making learning accessible to all students
Maximize instruction, a safe and disciplined learning environment in which classrooms values, teaching points, process charts, and student work are displayed
Uphold all school policies within the classroom
Model strong written and verbal skills
Curriculum and Instruction
Understanding the proficiency-based language pedagogy
Collaborate with grade team and coordinators to create rich, integrated units of study
Full participation in grade-level team and curricular planning meetings
Adhere to grade-level pacing calendars
Use lesson plans to help drive instruction
Submit necessary curriculum documents (e.g. curriculum maps, lesson plans) as requested
Differentiate instruction in meaningful ways to support student learning
Assessment
Maintain organized records of anecdotal notes and assessments
Administer formal and informal assessments throughout the school year
Use assessment data to modify unit plans, inform groupings, and support student referrals
Use assessment data to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
Parent and Family Engagement
Establish and maintain ongoing positive relationships with families
Appropriately give and receive feedback to/from students, parents, staff and administration
Keep families well-informed of student performance and progress
Provide feedback and guidance to classroom assistants
Skills
Strong proficiency in Mandarin language instruction with the ability to teach all K-12 grade levels effectively
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage students of diverse backgrounds
Ability to create dynamic lesson plans that cater to different learning styles
Experience working with students in an educational setting, preferably with university-level teaching experience
Cultural sensitivity and enthusiasm for promoting Chinese language and culture
Organizational skills to manage classroom activities and maintain detailed student records

Pay: $87,000.00 - $97,000.00 per year
