Job Description

We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Production Manager to lead day-to-day production operations in our fast-paced, small-company environment. This role is a key member of the Operations team and serves as a visible safety leader, responsible for overseeing production execution across machining, HVOF spray and cladding, and of course continuous improvement.

This position will supervise and provide technical support to Machining & HVOF Spray/cladding across two shifts and involves daily coaching and mentoring of production leads and shop floor staff. Working closely with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, HSE, and HR, the role has a direct impact on safety performance, production output, and team engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Production Leadership & Execution

Plan, forecast, schedule, and oversee end-to-end manufacturing operations from raw materials to finished goods.
Provide technical support.
Oversee Manufacturing operations to ensure productions targets, quality standards, and delivery targets are consistently made.
Coordinate with Supply Chain, Procurement, Sales, Maintenance and QA teams to ensure seamless production processes.
Monitor production performance metrics (KPI’s) and implement continuous improvement initiatives to increase productivity and reduce waste.
Maintain accurate production records and prepare operational reports for Senior Management.
Supervise and support production teams across Machining and HVOF spray/cladding over multiple shifts.
Lead, coach, train, and develop production staff and lead hands, support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and annual reviews.
Balance time and attention across all production areas to ensure workflow efficiency and target attainment.
Champion daily production discussions and maintain visibility on weekly and monthly production targets.
Drive a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement across their department.
Identify and escalate production gaps related to staffing, materials, or equipment and drive timely resolution.
Identify, support and resolve production issues, bottlenecks, and equipment malfunctions in a timely manner.
Health, Safety & Environment

Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations in Alberta to ensure compliance with Health, safety and environmental regulations, while maintaining a safe working environment for all employees.
Actively promote and model a safety-first culture as a core leadership responsibility.
Conduct safety audits, training reviews, accident investigations, hazard identification, and near-miss follow-ups.
Implement and monitor housekeeping and safety programs focused on risk reduction and cost control.
Partner with HSE and HR on escalations, investigations, and performance-related matters.
Operational Efficiency & Continuous Improvement

Use ERP systems (D365) to create and manage production jobs, schedules, inventory flow, and documentation.
Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks, waste, and opportunities for improvement.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to material flow, layout, storage, and throughput.
Track and improve KPIs including safety, scrap, rework, downtime, QC, labor efficiency, and on-time delivery.
Support and contribute to quoting and delivery planning efforts.
Quality, Equipment & Maintenance

Partner with Engineering and Quality to support product quality, QC priorities, NCRs, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
Ensure production documentation and work orders are in place and followed.
Conduct regular equipment and machinery inspections and coordinate maintenance and repairs with technical and facilities teams.
Supply Chain, Inventory & Logistics

Collaborate with Supply Chain and Procurement to ensure timely material availability and optimized inventory levels.
Work with Inventory Supervisor to ensure inventory reviews of critical parts and support consumables management are complete.
Manage WIP and finished goods inventory to support production flow.
Support logistics coordination for product delivery and pickup.
Monitor labor, material, and overhead costs and support basic production budgeting and cost control.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Reporting

Coordinate production plans and schedules with Sales, Engineering, and Management.
Partner with Accounting to support accurate and timely invoices.
Communicate daily production status, risks, quality concerns, and priorities to management.
Prepare and present production performance reports and improvement updates.
Education, Experience & Skills

High School Diploma or GED required, post-secondary education or equivalent experience preferred.
5–8 years of progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
Journeyman Machinist, HVOF, Heavy duty mechanic, or industrial mechanic related experience would be an asset.
Proven ability to lead, motivate, and discipline shop floor teams.
Strong hands-on experience with production operations, scheduling, and lean manufacturing.
Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
Experience with ERP systems; Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred.
Rotating equipment experience is an asset.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, analytical, communication, and time management skills.
Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Team-oriented leader with strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Experience in planning, customer service, or production support functions is an asset.
