Your Opportunity:
Working as a member of an interdisciplinary team, this position is responsible for providing assessment and treatment recommendations to professional caregivers and family physicians regarding the management and treatment of seniors with complex mental health issues residing in Long-term Care facilities and on rehabilitation/transitional units, and for the support to professional caregivers and family members where required. This position is also responsible for consultation and liaison with other professionals along a continuum of care to facilitate a coordinated network of mental health services to seniors, and their caregivers and families.

As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years mental health experience which includes at least 1 year experience in geriatrics mental health. Experience working on a multidisciplinary team and in collaboration with other health partner agencies. Experienced in assessment and report writing. Ability to read lab values. Experience working in a consultation role. Extensive knowledge of clinical mental health syndromes and medical issues commonly seen in the senior’s population. Proficient understanding of dementia and delirium syndromes as well as treatment practices for this subgroup of mental health clients. Ability to work in a fast-paced subacute environment. Ability to work independently and within an outreach model. Strong mental health and medical assessments, consultation and intervention skills. Excellent verbal and written communications skills essential. Excellent interpersonal skills required. Basic computer and word processing skills required. Ability to set priorities and organize time effectively.

Connect Care training/experience is an asset. Experience in LTC/SL is an asset.
