DBA Responsibilities :
1. Create and maintain all databases required for development, testing and 24x7 production usage. Excellent knowledge and hands on experience in MySQL and MongoDB.
2. Provide technical support to application development teams and their members as part of a rotating DBA team shift. This includes the management of all database objects, including schemas, users, tables, indexes, views, sequences, grants and procedures.
3. Perform ongoing tuning of database instances and their related SQL based queries. Edit database objects as required to improve performance and ensure maximum uptime.
4. Plan and implement backup and recovery of the OLTP and Data warehouse instances to meet requirements.
5. Perform ETL data transfer between OLTP and OLAP database systems.
6. Evaluate releases of the database systems we use, their tools, and third-party products for value, security and performance.
7. Monitor both the RDBMS and OS for application and performance issues. Implement fixes and adjustments where and when appropriate. write shell scripts for monitoring and alerting purpose as required.
The DBA should posses the following skills :
A. Sound knowledge of Linux and Windows OS structure and their associated batch file and command line functions.
B. 5+ years of experience with MySQL RDBMS with knowledge of MongoDB and AWS databases. An Oracle background would be a bonus in this arena.
C. Excellent knowledge of database modeling and design concepts.
D. Expertise in MongoDB, MySQL backup, restore, replication will be preferred.
E. Hands on Experience in database backup, partial restore, data recovery, upgrades and migrations
F. Experience using AWS RDS, DMS and CloudWatch.
G. Expertise with AWS Redshift is a bonus. As well as Oracle to MySQL migrations.
H. Sound communication skills with management, development teams, systems administrators and other related service providers.
I. Self driven, proactive, good problem solving and troubleshooting skill
