Job Description

The Non-Destructive Testing Lab (NDT) functions as a support department to the shipyard providing all NDT required by specifications, drawings, Standard Procedures, and Regulatory Agencies. NDT services provided are Radiography (R/T), Ultrasonic Testing (U/T), Magnetic Particle Testing (M/T), Dye Penetrates Testing (P/T), Chemical Spot Testing, Metal Monitor Testing, Hardness Testing, Cathodic Protection Surveys, Metallurgical Sample preparation and analysis, Eddy Current Testing, review and final approval authority for all subcontractor furnished radiographs and NDT procedures. Conducts NDT in accordance with applicable procedures to determine if parts meet nondestructive specifications. Perform on the job training for Level I employees. Perform NDT in accordance with applicable procedures. Perform specific set-up and calibrate equipment. ASNT IRRSP or equivalent is required by NRC and MSDH in order to perform industrial radiography or an assistant in radiography operations.

Basic Qualifications

NDT helper apprentice, while being trained will work with an NDT certified INSPECTOR until they have completed all OJT testing and training hours. The NDT HA will be required to pass all test in order to obtain certifications in VT, MT, MT, and PT. Failure to obtain these certifications will be grounds for dismissal/discharged from the NDT HA program.

Preferred Qualifications

Possess the ability to inspect confined spaces, stooping, bending, crawling, and climb when required. Demonstrated basic computer skills are required. Ability to read a blueprint.
