Job Summary and Qualifications
Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Neonatal Nutrition Technician is responsible for the storage, preparation, and packaging of expressed breast milk and formulas for individual NICU patients.
What you will do in this role:
• Facilitates unit operation through assigned activities
• Examples of competence in job knowledge may include but not limited to:
• Prepare breast milk and formula using aseptic technique.
• Safely and effectively operates sterilization unit.
• Practices appropriate safety measures in the preparation and distribution of breast milk/formula to prevent errors
• Answers the telephone and provides information as requested or refers questions to appropriate personnel.
• Maintains stock levels of supplies used in department
• Ensures appropriate charges are generated for equipment/supplies in patient care areas
• Demonstrates ability to learn and apply new skills, keeps abreast of current developments
• Has enhanced clinical skills in the last 12 months in area of practice relevant to patients served
• Staff is expected to complete and show evidence of compliance with this requirement (additional activities may be submitted for approval to fulfill this requirement)
• Acts as a preceptor for new employees
• Current with all required in-services as specified by facility/ department/position
• Participates in a departmental committee which has a focus on improving practice
• Participate in in-services and self-directed learning activities to enhance individual and group performance.
• Able to perform daily work with minimal supervision or prompt by supervisor.
What qualifications you will need:
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
