Our client, a 100‑year‑old nonprofit specialty hospital and undisputed leader in its field, is seeking a Vice President and Chief Financial Officer to guide the financial strategy and operations of its Texas and Kansas entities. The CFO will serve as a member of the Executive Committee stewarding financial health, operational excellence, and long‑term sustainability for an institution that continues to shape the future of its specialty.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Leadership
• Is highly visible in the work environment such that faculty and staff see the Chief Financial Officer as a leader, a colleague and a facilitator in achieving the organization’s strategic plan. Promotes strong relationships with other members of the senior management team and throughout the organization.
• Creates trust and confidence that financial information is reliable, accurate, timely and transparent and can clearly articulate the meaning and importance of these data.
• Safeguards and manages the resources of the organization by insisting that all resource utilization is subject to a comparative analysis of best practices, cost benefit and affordability within the context of the competitive environment in which the organization exists.
• Leads the finance and accounting team of 11 reports.

Knowledge and Practice
• Formulates, approves and administers the annual operating and capital budgets; develops an effective financial planning and investment strategy; assists the senior management team in exceeding budget expectations.
• Maintains a system of internal accounting controls to ensure all accounting transactions are in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, auditing standards, and requirements of governmental and other regulatory agencies; assures that an unqualified report is achieved from Board appointed auditors.
• Periodically reports the financial condition of the organization to the senior management team and other parties or agencies as required; serves as a resource person or consultant to other senior management personnel on specific finance-related issues; provides ongoing, accurate, and timely reports on the actual and forecast financial performance of all operations; identifies any causes for less than optimal financial performance, and recommends action plans to address all financial performance issues.
• Manages all aspects of the Finance functions, demonstrating leadership to the organization in the way that these functions are organized, managed and consistently achieve high performance results.
• Serves as the primary liaison to the Board’s Finance Committee; serves as the organization's representative for various financial institutions and directly negotiates major financial transactions; assures that contracts are prepared in a timely fashion and meet legal requirements; negotiates major financial transactions.

Innovation & Continuous Learning
• Enhances professional expertise through appropriate seminars, conferences and/or other educational experiences; maintains professional contacts with other institutions and organizations.
• Provides the senior management team with innovative approaches to strategic, tactical and operational issues.

Education and Experience Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field.
• Certified Public Accountant or Master of Business Administration preferred.
• Ten or more years of experience in progressively more responsible accounting and finance positions.
• Three to five years senior financial management experience in a hospital organization is required.
• Advanced knowledge of financial accounting, budgeting, auditing principles, and information systems.
• Knowledge of health care reimbursement procedures and regulations; knowledge of current tax laws and IRS regulations.
• A high level of interpersonal, problem-solving and management skills; ability to represent the organization in a public relations capacity.
• Extensive knowledge of, and appreciation for, the complexity of the clinical and management structure of a hospital.
• Capacity to obtain a thorough understanding of the organization's goals, purposes, and programs and to conceptualize and implement fiscal plans based on those goals, purposes, and programs.
• Ability to design and implement effective ways to evaluate and improve program effectiveness.
• Knowledge of current trends in the health care industry and state and national legislation affecting health care.
• Commitment to a team concept for managing an institution.
