Your Opportunity:
The School Clinical Development Nurse (CDN) is a member of the Edmonton Zone Public Health (PH) team working in a nursing leadership role engaged in a wide range of activities to support universal Public Health services, including as a super user for Connect Care. The CDN’s responsibilities encompass various aspects of nursing practice, education, and community engagement. This position requires that you: Support manager (i.e. provide clinical expertise and input to Manager regarding staff development). Complete clinical practice evaluations of nursing colleagues. Coordinate and lead staff orientation, continuing education. Facilitate change, possess conflict resolution skills. Provide mentoring and coaching while collaborating with the Manager. Use critical thinking along with solutions focus and organizational skills to support daily operations. Carry up to 25 lbs. of equipment; pack, push, pull, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies; walk 3-4 blocks, climb 3-4 flights of stairs to deliver services; carry out awkward and repetitive movements for an entire 7.75-hour shift, including sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time. Document in an electronic medical record continuously throughout the shift. Be self-directed and to exercise independent nursing judgment. Deliver educational presentations (public speaking). Provide client services. Previous experience working with diverse communities, groups and/or organizations (i.e., ethno-cultural, equity-setting, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, and persons across all age groups, etc.). The School Health (SH) program provides immunization services, health promotion, education & harm reduction approaches to build healthy school communities. The position supports school programs at multiple sites within the Edmonton Zone & is required to travel.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Ability to work in a loud, chaotic, busy environment with clients and families. Compliance with appropriate hand hygiene techniques, including regular use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer & antibacterial soap. Working knowledge of computer applications including basic word processing, email, & data entry required. Duties must be completed with a high level of independence but also interdependent within a larger team environment. Strong interpersonal skills; experience in interdisciplinary teamwork; strong written & oral communication skills. Active driver’s license & access to a reliable vehicle. Travel required. Recent experience (within the past two years) using computer technology & applications including website navigation, office or business applications, health database use (e-People, Netcare, Meditech, Connect Care or other), & MS Office. Expertise in preparing & delivering educational presentations (public speaking) to adults & children Ability to perform other nursing duties to support programs and services within Edmonton Zone Public Health. Documentation is to be done at point of care as per CRNA guidelines with 100% accuracy. Must be able to perform within established program parameters. Recent Public Health experience (within the past two years), working with children & their families required. Other skills and experience relevant to Public Health may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) strongly preferred. Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Community Health Nursing. Knowledge, understanding & demonstrated use of the social determinants of health & health promotion strategies. Public Health nursing experience. Community based pediatric Addiction and Mental Health nursing experience. Health Promotion and Harm Reduction Experience. Indigenous Cultural and Sensitivity training.
