REPORTING TO: CEO
HOURS: 3/4 days Office based, plus patient contact in the community

ROLE PURPOSE
The Nurse Manager is also the Registered Manager with CQC responsible for ensuring the highest quality of care is delivered on behalf of the charity. The Nurse Manager will be the Clinical lead responsible for the strategy, growth and direction of all clinical aspects of the charity.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
• To maintain and further develop the Clinical Services of the charity
• To line manage the Nursing Coordinators within the Hospice at Home service and any nursing related activity
• To build and maintain a healthy collaborative team environment
• To balance the support of your team with any operational or financial challenges of the charity
• Act as an Ambassador for KHN with all touchpoints both internally and externally.
Nursing Care and Clinical Governance
• Lead and co-ordinate the care given by the KHN nursing staff, ensuring that it meets and strives to exceed the standards set by the trustees, CQC regulations, the code as set out by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the Mental Capacity Act (2005).
• To demonstrate professional and effective leadership when assisting in the execution of these duties and to ensure an efficient, smooth and safe patient journey.
• Adhere to the requirements of the role as set out by the CQC. Keep up to date with changes within CQC requirements and implement changes in procedures where necessary, ensuring any further staff training requirements are met. Record changes in an inventory and reference CQC requirements.
HR and Training
• Recruit and train new nurse co-ordinators and nurses in all aspects of their roles, act as a mentor when required to new nurses including students.
• Manage the nursing team on TeamNet and ensure all training needs are met
• Organise training programmes when needed
• Keep up to date with developments and changes in methods of palliative care, disseminate and record relevant information to the Nurse Managers, Nurse co-ordinators and Nurses as appropriate.
• Responsible for the governance of the clinical service and for the adherence to policies and procedures at all times.
• Take an active role in the development of new policies and the updating of existing Policies and Procedures in line with all associated professional bodies
Risk Assessment
• Identify potential hazards and prepare Risk Assessments. Ensure that all staff are trained in safe ways of working and are fully aware of the risk assessments and control measures.
• Through our Quality, Risk and Governance process (QURG) – report and document any incidents in a timely manner, to the appropriate person or body.
• Act as the point of contact for reporting any significant events / incidents and that any actions / new procedures resulting from investigation of incidents are implemented in a timely fashion.
• Facilitate the monthly QURG meetings and ensure accurate record keeping of significant events/incidents.
• Constantly review and Audit caseloads and services to ensure people are getting the right care in the most efficient and cost-effective way for the charity, considering charity sustainability at all times.
• To identify possible issues within Nursing, escalating to the CEO as necessary.
Communication
• Ensure open communication and effective liaison between both clinical and management teams, and report any key issues to the appropriate individuals.
• Act as a liaison between all patient-led services to ensure the highest levels of communication and seamless transition on a patient's journey with the charity.
• To ensure good working relationships with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, patients and their families.
• To actively build relationships within the community.
• Report to the CEO where necessary providing data as required and reporting any governance areas of concern as and when they occur.
• To represent KHN at external meetings and events, as required, acting as an ambassador for the charity and services represented. These will include ICB meetings and sister charity meetings
Other
• The jobholder is required to do some coordination shifts in a year, covering some of the coordinators' annual leave.
• It is expected that the Nurse Manager will have up-to-date clinical skills and will do a minimum of 4 night shifts a year, to be fitted around the day work
• The Nurse Manager will conduct live supervision sessions, accompanying nurses to their patients for a few hours to observe and provide live supervision in a patient's home.
• The jobholder may be required to travel outside the KHN patient care area on an ad hoc basis, as required by the service.
• Complete any relevant tasks reasonably requested by KHN to meet the needs of the service.
• Maintain a monitoring system for the care given by KHN and use the information gathered to improve the quality and quantity of care given to patients.
• Ensure that all the patient data is entered, stored and retrieved according to internal policies and relevant legislation
• Collect and collate patient feedback and act on any areas of learning
KEY SKILLS
• Evidence of CPD including identification of own learning needs.
• Full and valid UK driving licence
• Proven communication skills both written and oral
• Judgement, problem solving and analytical skills
• Self-motivation and self-management with organisational ability
• The ability to work independently and as a team member
• Ability to make robust decisions based on knowledge given in the interest of the patient, the service and the charity
• Good working knowledge of risk management
• Discretion and the ability to demonstrate total confidentiality always
• Training skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to adapt to change within a sometimes fast-paced charity
ESSENTIAL AND DESIRABLE QUALITIES
Essential
Education & Experience
• Registered General Nurse qualification
• Experience within the palliative sector
• 5 year’s post qualification experience in community nursing
• Ability to motivate staff and create cohesive enthused team
• Ability to work autonomously
• Effective communication skills
• Current knowledge of governance, changes and developments within palliative care
Desirable
Education & Experience
• BSc in Nursing studies or equivalent with experience in community nursing, or equivalent
• Diploma level 5 - Leadership and Management
• Specialist qualifications in Palliative Care
• Experience of being a Registered Manager -CQC
