The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Operations Manager to provide a critical role at the Metropolitan Remand Centre.
About the Business Unit
Metropolitan Remand Centre (MRC) is a 954-bed maximum-security facility for unsentenced male individuals located within the West Metropolitan Region. The facility includes three mainstream accommodation units, two protection units, two management units, and several spaces for those who require additional supports such as vulnerable prisoners, and prisoners at risk.
About the Role
The Operations Manager manages the high level, day-to-day operational needs of the prison, contributing to the ongoing strategic planning, implementation, and improvement of prison operations in a changing environment. The Operations Manager will be responsible for managing a team of custodial and non-custodial officers delivering a range of correctional services to MRC for which the incumbent will require superior leadership skills.
A good understanding of contemporary prisoner management and participant services practices are needed to ensure that prisoners are managed, and programs are provided consistent with Corrections Victoria's policies, procedures, and priorities. The Operations Manager will need to demonstrate a good understanding of the particular requirements of remand prisoners and have a sound knowledge of static, and dynamic security practices.
The Operations Manager has responsibility for overseeing all aspects of prisoner management and ensuring that MRC policies and procedures are followed. This will include liaising with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure that individual management issues and requirements are being met. The role also involves the coordination of information and services to the various areas within the prison, and the ability to develop and implement new policies and procedures. They will also be required to identify and address issues concerning the prison, prisoners, and staff.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Provide leadership to staff, promoting Corrections Victoria's vision and managing staff in ways that reflect that vision.
Develop, manage, and ensure the quality of the delivery of custodial processes including offender management, movement control, operation of security equipment, reception and discharge, escorts, visitors and visits, urinalysis, searching, security procedures, disciplinary issues and hearings and Review and Assessment.
Ensure delivery of custodial services and integrate this delivery with education, industry, clinical services.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Demonstrated commitment to working with staff, prisoners, and other service providers in the delivery of an integrated, whole of prison program approach to reducing re-offending
Qualifications and/or demonstrated experience and skill in areas relevant to correctional delivery, offender management, OH&S/HR management, or offender treatment.
Qualifications/requirements
Preservice training (or jurisdictional equivalent) or the preparedness to complete certain modules of the preservice training.
Custodial Management is favourable but not essential.
