Primary objective
Deliver high quality, culturally appropriate and effective Orthoptic and Ophthalmic care for both adult and paediatric clients within NT
Health.

Context statement
NT Health provides integrated allied health services in a variety of service settings including acute and sub-acute care, primary health care,
aged care and mental health. Currently seeking applicants in the Orthoptics. This position will require the applicant to work within a
Monday – Friday 08:00-16:21 model with overtime for bush visits only.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide timely, clinically and culturally appropriate orthoptic services under supervision within a multidisciplinary framework.
2. Participate in professional development and research activities under guidance.
3. Provide clinical supervision and/or support to students and relevant staff as appropriate.
4. Manage a caseload within a dynamic and evolving work environment to ensure timelines and health outcomes are met.
5. Participate in continuous quality improvement and service development activities at a local level to ensure delivery of contemporary

orthoptic services.
6. Ensure clinical and corporate records are maintained, including accurate documentation and statistics
7. Contribute to the achievement of work unit goals and key performance indicators
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
9. Foster a positive workplace culture through professional work practices and role modelling behaviour in accordance with NT Health

values.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Relevant qualifications in Orthoptics,
2. Ability to develop clinical orthoptic skills providing a clinical service to patients and families/carers
3. Awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and an ability to interact effectively with patients and families/carers of diverse

cultural and social backgrounds.
4. Developed communication, interpersonal skills, conflict management skills, with experience working in a team environment to achieve

positive health outcomes.
5. Ability to efficiently and effectively manage a patient caseload and a demonstrated commitment to professional development.
6. Knowledge of continuous quality improvement strategies.

Desirable
1. Experience in the use of office-based computer programs and databases.

Primary objective
Ensure delivery of high quality, culturally appropriate and effective Orthoptic and Ophthalmic care for both adult and paediatric clients in
conjunction with the Ophthalmologists and Registrars at Alice Springs Hospital and throughout the Central Hospital Network services
whilst providing clinical leadership and supervision to Orthoptist and Ophthalmic Nurses within NT Health.

aged care and mental health. Currently seeking applicants in the following areas: Ophthalmology. This position will require the applicant
to work within an extended hours service model; Monday to Friday and will include outreach clinics to remote communities.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide ophthalmic diagnostic services for both adult and paediatric clients, Orthoptic assessments and treatment with an emphasis on

children’s vision and eye movement disorders.
2. Provide timely, clinically and culturally appropriate Orthoptic services within a multidisciplinary framework.
3. Provide expert advice on program and clinical issues within Ophthalmology.
4. Provide leadership, supervision, mentorship and education to orthoptic students and nursing staff.
5. Independently organise and manage a high-volume complex workload within a dynamic and evolving work environment to ensure

timelines and health outcomes are met.
6. Initiate, implement and complete research, continuous quality improvement and service development activities at a local or regional level

to ensure delivery of contemporary [Ophthalmology] services.
7. Lead and/or monitor the achievement of work unit goals and key performance indicators
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order

to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Essential
1. Relevant qualifications in [Bachelor of Applied Science Orthoptics that meets membership eligibility requirements of Orthoptics

Australia, and registration for practice with the Orthoptic Board of Australia.
2. Extensive post graduate experience in providing contemporary, high level clinical Orthoptic services to patients and families/carers.
3. Demonstrated awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and proven experience in working effectively with patients and

families/carers of diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
4. Proven high level communication and interpersonal skills, including well developed negotiation and conflict management skills, with

significant experience working in a team environment to achieve positive health outcomes.
5. Extensive experience in clinical supervision of students and staff and a commitment to professional development.
6. Proven ability to initiate, implement and complete continuous quality improvement and service development activities.
7. Proven ability to efficiently and effectively organise and manage a high-volume complex workload.
8. Demonstrated high level leadership skills with capacity to provide leadership in a team environment.

Desirable
1. Post-graduate qualifications in clinical education, leadership / management, speciality practice area or other relevant field.

Primary objective
Supports and provides collaborative, appropriate, proficient, coordinated direct and indirect clinical care for complex client presentations,
including working with and alongside less experienced nursing and midwifery staff, within the specialty area.

Context statement
Previous experience working in an ophthalmic clinic. Must be proficient in assessing client's visions, IOP, preforming OCT scans,
Biometry and HVF is required for this role. Assisting the Ophthalmologist with IVI's and Minor Procedures will be required. Paediatric
Ophthalmology experience will be highly regarded.
This position will require the applicant to work Monday to Friday and will include outreach clinics to remote communities. A valid class C
Drivers Licence will be required.

1. Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or eligible for same.
2. Demonstrated highly developed clinical knowledge and skills in relevant area of nursing/midwifery supporting well developed clinical

decision-making and problem solving to achieve best practice outcomes for healthcare consumers.
3. Demonstrate and promote a learning environment through clinical support, instruction, and feedback including mentoring students,

graduates and less experienced staff across the multidisciplinary team.
4. Experience contributing to the development and implementation of local/regional policy, including interpreting established

professional precedents and organisational policies and supporting change management.
5. Demonstrated use of effective communication skills to influence and convince staff and/or clients, including on sensitive matters

requiring tact and diplomacy
6. Demonstrates well-developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities that

influence health care provision for clients and families.

1. Graduate Certificate beyond entry-to-practice relevant to specialty area.
