The Department of Neurology seeks an outgoing, creative, and collaborative Community Outreach and Engagement Manager to support institutionally and externally funded research initiatives focused on brain health, aging, and dementia.

This role will lead community-facing efforts that advance community-engaged research and education, with a primary emphasis on building sustainable partnerships and strengthening community participation across the greater Seattle metropolitan area and surrounding regions.

Working closely with program leadership, faculty investigators, researchers, and clinicians, the Community Outreach and Engagement Manager will help guide the development and execution of a comprehensive Community Engagement program aligned with research and programmatic priorities. This position will support outreach strategy development, partnership cultivation, and community-based activities that enhance research participation, support dissemination, and promote meaningful bidirectional engagement. Responsibilities include coordinating educational and outreach initiatives, supporting engagement infrastructure, and contributing to evaluation and reporting efforts

The Community Outreach and Engagement Manager will lead and coordinate community-facing initiatives that support the mission of UW Department of Neurology’s brain health and aging research program. This position will serve as a primary liaison between the institution and community partners, with a focus on developing, implementing, and evaluating outreach activities that advance community-engaged health research, education, and service. The role will work closely with faculty investigators, research staff, clinicians, and external stakeholders to build sustainable partnerships, enhance community participation in research, identify new partnership opportunities aligned with research or health-promotion goals and ensure that community perspectives are meaningfully integrated into institutional programs.

As a representative of the institution and researchers at community events, meetings, and public forums, excellent communication, organization, and professionalism are essential. This role also requires the ability to think both flexibly and strategically while managing day-to-day operations, balance multiple projects with clear objectives and strict timelines, and proactively identify opportunities for program improvement. As this role requires direct community engagement, The Manager must be comfortable with public speaking and demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence skills in working with a broad range of individuals including the public, community leaders, clinical and research faculty, and other research staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Engagement & Partnership Development – 40%

Establish, cultivate, and maintain long-term partnerships with local and regional community organizations, healthcare providers, public agencies, and advocacy groups.
Serve as a primary point of contact between the brain health research program and community stakeholders.
Represent these research program at community meetings, conferences, and other outreach events.
Support the development and facilitation of community advisory boards and stakeholder working groups.
Outreach Program Development & Implementation – 30%

Collaborate with investigators on the design, implementation, and management of community outreach strategies and engagement plans that align with program objectives.
Coordinate and deliver community-based workshops, educational programs, and engagement activities.
Support participant recruitment, retention, and dissemination efforts for community-engaged research projects.
Ensure outreach approaches are culturally responsive, ethical, and community-informed.
Program Coordination, Evaluation & Reporting – 10%

Coordinate logistics for outreach events, meetings, and community-based activities.
Track and document engagement activities, partnerships, and related metrics.
Assist with evaluation of outreach effectiveness and community impact.
Prepare reports, summaries, and documentation for program leadership, funding agencies, and stakeholders.
Education, Communication & Resource Development – 10%

Develop and adapt educational materials, presentations, and communication tools for community audiences.
Translate research and health information into accessible, community-friendly formats.
Provide training and guidance to research staff and students on best practices in community engagement.
Research & Grant Support – 5%

Collaborate with investigators on community-engaged research design, implementation, and dissemination.
Contribute to grant and project proposals.
Project Management & Team Collaboration – 5%

Work closely with multidisciplinary teams across research, clinical, and administrative units.
Supervise and coordinate outreach staff, trainees, or community health workers, as appropriate.
Manage timelines, deliverables, and cross-partner communications.
Maintain detailed financial records and accounting, adhering to defined project budgets.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's Degree in Public health, social sciences, health administration, communications, or a related field and 3 years of relevant experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

A D DITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated experience in community-engaged research or community outreach and engagement with an emphasis in public health or human subjects research.
Demonstrated ability to build and sustain community partnerships.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong organizational and project management abilities.
Experience working with diverse populations and community-based organizations.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree (MPH, MSW, MPA, or related field).
Experience in academic health centers, medical schools, or research programs.
Familiarity with NIH-funded or grant-supported programs.
Experience supporting community-engaged or participatory research.
Supervisory experience and comfort working in multidisciplinary environments.
Working Environmental Conditions:
This is a hybrid employment opportunity combining office-based, remote, and community-based work.
Regular local travel to partner sites and community events.
Occasional regional travel may be required.
Occasional evening or weekend activities may be required.

$75,000.00 annual
