The opportunity:
This role is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of participation growth in the Otago and Southland region. It will join our regional workforce, based in Central Otago, and lead the delivery of participation initiatives.
What you will be doing:
Reporting to the Participation Manager – South Island, the participation coordinator will lead the implementation of existing Golf New Zealand participation initiatives and programmes and support the development of other initiatives to increase the number of people playing golf. This position requires an energetic and skilled individual who can lead others to achieve the outcomes of the role.
Specifically, you will:
Lead the administration and coordination of the Futures Whakatipu Hub.
Work in close partnership with golf clubs, golf facilities and coaching professionals to provide quality introduction and development programmes at schools, in communities, and in golf clubs that drive increased participation and club membership.
Deliver regional participation initiatives with a focus on young people, women and the casual player.
Support the implementation of Golf New Zealand’s range of participation programmes and initiative across all clubs in the region.
Support the effective connection between the Golf New Zealand Participation team, regional staff, Golf Otago representatives and golf facilities throughout the region.
Build strong relationships with golf club leaders, key sector representatives, and supporting organisations across the region.
Support the enhancement of the Golf Otago and Futures Whakatipu website and other digital platforms.
Leverage the staging of golf events in the Otago region for participation benefits.
What you will bring:
A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable – Coaching, Sport & Recreation, Physical Education.
Ability to manage time well and stay on task while working independently.
Ability to prioritise and multi-task while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
Establish and maintain effective relationships.
Is energetic, highly motivated, enthusiastic, and considerate.
A team player that adds value to the team environment.
Is willing to continually learn and improve.
Ability to provide innovative, constructive, and effective recommendations.
Willing to be flexible with working days and hours.
A passion for sport.
In addition, you must have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa and a current NZ Drivers Licence.

Otago is the largest golfing district in New Zealand, in terms of number of clubs and land area, with 48 affiliated clubs and 3 Futures Hubs spread over 32,000 square kilometres. Total club membership numbers some 10,000 with many more casual players taking advantage of the reasonable green fee rates prevalent throughout the province. Otago Golf Club is the oldest club in the southern hemisphere, founded in 1871. The Otago region's golf courses cover the full spectrum, from country classics with sheep trimming the fairways (with greens protected by electric fences) to top quality international resorts, set against the stunning Southern Lakes scenery. With staff based in Dunedin and Central Otago, Golf Otago provides a wide range of support for golf in the region, from events and programmes through to club support and talent development.
