Primary objective
Contribute to the delivery of Health Care Services and the continuity of care of patients by providing a transport and
accommodation service within Royal Darwin Hospital under the Patient Assistance Travel Scheme (PATS). A seven day
rotating roster will be in place to cater to business demands.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure continuity of care for patients by working within a multidisciplinary team environment and networking with other
services and agencies as required.
2. Arrange travel, with airlines, bus companies, or Darwin Ferry service, for authorised intrastate and interstate patients
referred for medical treatment and communicate with key stakeholders.
3. Arrange accommodation with relevant service providers and communicate with key stakeholders.
4. Assist with preparation of reports measuring the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the Patient Travel Scheme.
5. Reconcile accounts from travel and accommodation providers and prepare for payment in keeping with NT Government
account settlement guidelines.
6. Generate reimbursements for patient’s travel expenses, as per Policy.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.
8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven ability to work effectively in a small team environment, with limited supervision.
2. Demonstrated ability to identify, research, and analyse complex problems and issues, think laterally to identify alternative
options and recommend cost effective solutions.
3. Demonstrated use of effective communication and interpersonal skills, to maximise productive working relationships
with stakeholders.
4. Demonstrated knowledge in the transportation of patients requiring complex travel, logistics and accommodation in
remote areas of the NT, whilst ensuring policy and procedures are adhered to.
5. Developed understanding of medical terminology or demonstrated willingness to learn.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of the Patients Assistance Travel Scheme and have client service experience in a health environment.
