Job Summary
JR Hobbs is a multi-state provider of HVAC mechanical installations for new construction apartments, commercial buildings and for preventive maintenance service. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of weekly payroll using the Paycom system while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This part-time role supports a fast-paced environment and works closely with Human Resources, managers and field operations to maintain payroll accuracy and employee satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Process weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees using Paycom HRIS system
Ensure accurate system calculation of wages, overtime, bonuses, per diem, and deductions
Maintain and audit employee payroll records in Paycom, including new hires, terminations, pay changes, and garnishments
Review payroll previews, timecards, and exception reports to identify and resolve discrepancies prior to payroll submission
Partner with HR and Operations to validate timekeeping, job costing, and labor allocations
Manage payroll taxes, benefit deductions, and retirement contributions within Paycom
File certified Payroll weekly in Elations software system for Davis Bacon/ HUD jobs.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
Respond to employee payroll inquiries promptly and professionally
Prepare payroll reports and documentation for audits and internal review
Maintain payroll calendars and meet all weekly payroll deadlines
Safeguard the confidentiality of payroll and employee information
Qualifications
3+ years of payroll processing experience in a weekly payroll environment for hourly and salaried employees.
Hands-on experience with Paycom, ADP, Paychex or similar payroll software required.
Strong knowledge of wage and hour laws, payroll taxes and related programs.
Experience auditing timecards and resolving payroll discrepancies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; pivot tables a plus, for weekly leadership reporting
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and meet weekly deadlines in a part-time capacity.
Excellent customer service, team player attitude in employee interactions.
Bilingual english/spanish, a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
Multi-state payroll rule experience
Experience supporting field-based, non-tech savvy hourly employees
Familiarity with Paycom Time & Labor Reporting, 401K Benefits Administration, and Employee Self-Service modules
