Parents’ Day Out Teacher

Report to: Director of PDO

Workplace Classification: On-site

Position Purpose: To help children develop intellectually, physically, emotionally, and to prepare them for future education.

Essential Functions
• Uphold and support the mission of the Episcopal Church and School.
• Plan, supervise, and implement the program for the class in accordance with the policies, curriculum, and philosophy of the school, and the Texas State Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers.
• Maintain a positive and adaptable team attitude.
• Demonstrate competency, good judgment, and self-control in the presence of children and when performing assigned responsibilities.
• Relate to children with courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patience in a positive manner, and help each child participate and succeed.
• Ensure that no child is abused, neglected, or exploited while in the care of the center and report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation to Texas Health and Human Services Child Care Regulations.
• Know each child’s name and carry information showing each child’s age, keeping an accurate headcount of children throughout the day.
• Provide not only for each child’s academic needs, but help develop social and emotional maturity
• Tend to child’s toileting/diapering needs with proper protocol, and help child develop good eating and dressing habits.
• Supervise students at ALL times; to and from activities, in the halls, at bathroom breaks, at lunch, at recess, and at arrival and dismissal.
• Circulate through the classroom and playground in order to monitor students’ progress and behavior, assist students in the instructional process, and maintain age appropriate discipline.
• Maintain a clean, safe and stimulating classroom.
• Implement individual strategies for learning, and deal with signs of learning, development and behavioral issues.
• Act as a mentor to new teachers.
• Write recommendation letters, as needed, for graduating students.
• Attend all required meetings and public-relations events.
• Meet all teacher expectations and duties as outlined in the Employee Manual.
• Prepare a substitute teacher folder and update throughout the year.
• Submit and develop lesson plans on a weekly basis using Developmentally Appropriate Practice as a guideline.
• Complete 24 hours of assigned training, annually, and maintain a current Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certificate.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians.
• Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
• A High School diploma is required. A college degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development Associates, or related field, with teaching experience in early childhood is preferred.
• Competence in technology
• Experience and willingness to work in a team environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Able to differentiate curriculum and needs for students with varying learning styles
• Required to pass basic requirements for Texas Health and Human Services Child Care Regulations

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
• Be able to work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
• Be able to lift up to 40 pounds
• Be able to move freely with children on the floor and around the classroom
• Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment
• Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
