Full job description
The University of London

The University of London is both the UK’s largest provider of international distance and online learning and the convenor of a federation of 17 renowned higher education institutions.

The federation brings together more than 250,000 learners and 50,000 staff in a collaborative community that is delivering high-quality research and education across all disciplines.

Since 1858, we have expanded access to world-class higher education. Today, around 40,000 students in more than 190 countries are part of our global learning community.

The University of London is also home to the School of Advanced Study, the national centre for the humanities, whose mission is to advocate for the discipline.

By working together, we expand access to outstanding higher education and resources and extend their benefits to learners and researchers across the UK and around the world.

The Role

The University of London is seeking a Philanthropy Officer to play a key role in securing philanthropic income for University’s fundraising priorities, including our flagship Senate House Library campaign.

As part of the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement Office, you will manage and grow a portfolio of major donor prospects, including individuals, trusts, foundations and corporates.

A core part of the role will be building longterm, meaningful relationships, making personal solicitations for gifts of £5,000+, and stewarding donors through a thoughtful, tailored engagement cycle. You will also work on preparing compelling proposals and funding applications, contribute to high-quality donor communications and support a programme of high-profile University events.

We are seeking a candidate with proven experience in fundraising or relationship management and a clear understanding of the positive societal impact of university teaching and research. You will bring excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail and a proactive, solutionsfocused mindset, enabling you to build effective relationships, advance our philanthropic ambitions and develop your career as part of a supportive and ambitious team.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a professional and sustainable fundraising programme at one of the world’s most respected educational institutions.
