What Will You Be Doing?

As a Planner within Reactor Decommissioning, you will support the planning and execution of Storage With Surveillance (SWS) and decommissioning activities for prototype reactors managed by CNL on behalf of AECL. Your responsibilities will include:

Preparing and supporting detailed work plans for Reactor Decommissioning field activities
Ensuring planning documents, methods, and practices comply with company policies and regulatory requirements, including health, safety, security, environmental, and quality standards
Supporting and leading activities under the Integrated Work Control Process (IWCP)
Preparing technical documentation and addressing comments in support of Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation (D&ER) activities
Researching tools, equipment, and techniques used in reactor decommissioning and environmental remediation
Assisting in the preparation of scopes of work and participating in bid evaluations
Working closely with trades, project staff, radiation protection, operations, and support groups to resolve planning and scheduling challenges
Applying continuous improvement principles by identifying and recommending procedural enhancements
Supporting innovation initiatives and responding to operational issues in accordance with established procedures
Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What We Are Looking For

Education

Graduation from an institute of technology with a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience
OR
Successful completion of secondary school with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, plus three (3) years of demonstrated leadership experience
Experience

Experience in a nuclear operational or decommissioning environment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong research, writing, and technical documentation skills
Ability to gather, analyze, and translate technical information into executable work steps
Ability to interpret complex drawings and specifications (paper and electronic formats)
Logical problem‑solving skills and the ability to work under pressure with competing priorities
Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
Understanding of the Integrated Work Control Process (IWCP)
Knowledge of configuration management and Engineering Change Control (ECC)
Working knowledge of nuclear decommissioning codes, CNSC regulations, and applicable safety standards
Understanding of radiation protection principles; minimum Group III certification required
Working knowledge of waste management principles and volume‑reduction methodologies
Working knowledge of the National Building Code, National Fire Code, and applicable company manuals
Class G driver’s licence held in good standing
Security Clearance Eligibility Required

Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which requires a minimum of 3–5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom.

CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s Standard on Security Screening and the Policy on Government Security.

Working Conditions

Primary work location is Chalk River Laboratories, with required travel to remote reactor sites including Douglas Point and Gentilly‑1
Work occurs in regulated nuclear and industrial environments where strict adherence to safety procedures is mandatory
Working Schedule:
Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day, for a forty (40) hour work week.

Located in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, our Chalk River site offers a beautiful natural setting with forests, lakes, and wildlife right at your doorstep. Surrounding communities such as Pembroke, Petawawa, and Deep River provide excellent outdoor recreation and quality of life.

Please note: This position is based at Chalk River Laboratories, with required travel to off‑site reactor locations.
