Biosecurity policy involves using analysis and strategic thinking to shape what we need to do to help protect New Zealand's environment, economy and way of life.

You will focus on primary and secondary legislation, but will need to be flexible and able to pivot to other high-priority work and projects as required.

As part of the Biosecurity System Policy team, you will support work on:

Proposed changes to the Biosecurity Act;

Border policy.

You will ideally be currently working as a Policy Analyst or be a post graduate in a similar role, with an interest in broadening your experience and knowledge of the primary sector.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, a solution focussed approach, and a proven ability to forge effective partnerships. You will draw on your experience to bring a versatile approach and enjoy working in a collaborative environment.

Experience as a policy analyst or in a strongly similar working environment;
Critical thinking and analytical skills to solve complex policy problems;
Flexibility and comfort with working with ambiguity;
Computer literacy for basic programmes such as Word, Excel;
Good interpersonal and communication skills; and
The ability to work collaboratively across MPI, across government and with external stakeholder groups

Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team
