The Opportunity
As the Portfolio Strategic Analyst role in the Portfolio Management team, you will play a critical role in helping the organisation understand the health and performance of its portfolio, and in identifying where the greatest opportunities for value creation lie.
This person sits at the intersection of finance, data, and strategy — transforming complex financial results and performance metrics into clear, actionable insights that inform decision-making at all levels. Reporting to the GM of Portfolio Management, you will operate as an individual contributor who analyses and interprets business metrics including financial to inform strategic decisions .
The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, financially literate, and highly analytical. They are comfortable working with large and ambiguous data sets, confident drawing meaningful conclusions from the numbers, and able to communicate their findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Crucially, they do not just report what the data says — they tell the story behind it, identify what it means for the business, and propose what should happen next. You will work closely with the Transformation team in Transformation Delivery, Value Acceleration and Change.
The role follows Vocus’ hybrid working pattern (two days per week in the office). No security clearance or shift work is required.
What you'll be responsible for
The key responsibilities of the role are listed below. These may change in response to your personal growth and business demands.
[Own] the financial analysis and performance interpretation for the enterprise portfolio, including analysing financial results across the portfolio, interpreting data in the context of the broader business performance, and developing a deep understanding of the key performance indicators at the portfolio layer.
[Own] the stakeholder engagement to support their understanding of the portfolio performance as well as develop a positive relationship with the finance team to support your analyses and ensure accuracy and consistency
[Execute] the analysis of financial and non-financial information to build a holistic view of portfolio performance by identifying trends and drawing meaningful insights and developing clear, well-articulated outputs
[Execute] the identification and validation of strategic opportunities within the portfolio to improve performance
[Support] the continuous improvement of the portfolio management across the business by championing best practices and proactively identifying opportunities to improve
What you'll bring to this role
This role requires an individual with commercial acumen and an understanding of how financial performance connects to broader business strategy. This person is highly analytical and intellectually curious, proactively seeking new information. Minimum 3+ years' experience in a strategy, finance, analytics or business performance role; Bachelor's degree required, relevant certifications or post-graduate qualifications preferred.
Strong financial literacy, with the ability to interpret P&L statements, financial forecasts, and variance analysis confidently.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, dynamic modelling, and data visualisation.
Proven experience drawing actionable insights from large or complex data sets.
Track record of identifying trends and translating them into clear, evidence-based recommendations.
Experience conducting research and initial validation of business opportunities or strategic hypotheses.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting analytical findings to senior stakeholders.
Comfortable managing multiple workstreams and prioritising effectively under pressure.
