Job Description
As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking a Procurement Analyst to strengthen our supply chain capability and support data-driven procurement decisions across the business.
The Procurement Analyst supports Westland Mining Limited’s gold mining operations by providing detailed procurement, commercial, and supply chain analysis across mine development, production, and processing activities. The role ensures the timely, cost-effective, and compliant sourcing of goods and services critical to gold mining operations, including mobile plant, processing equipment, consumables, and contractor services.
This position plays a critical role in cost control, supply continuity, and continuous improvement across mining operations, maintenance, and corporate procurement categories. This is a permanent full-time position, and you will be required to work at least 40 hours per week at our Christchurch office.
Key Responsibilities
1. Mine-Site Procurement Analysis
Analyse procurement spend across gold mining operations, including open-pit and alluvial mining activities
Track and report costs for key mining categories such as:
i. Mobile and fixed plant equipment
ii. Crushing, screening, and gold processing plant components
iii. Diesel, lubricants, explosives-related services (where applicable)
iv. Wear parts, earthmoving consumables, and spare parts
v. Camp, logistics, and site services
Identify cost-saving and standardisation opportunities across sites and suppliers
2. Supplier & Contractor Performance
Monitor performance of mining suppliers and contractors, including:
i. Equipment suppliers and OEMs
ii. Maintenance and engineering contractors
iii. Transport and logistics providers servicing remote sites
Analyse delivery reliability, lead times, downtime impacts, and cost escalation risks
Support supplier risk assessments for critical mining inputs
Assist in supplier audits and performance reviews focused on operational reliability and safety
3. Sourcing, Tendering & Contracts
Support sourcing and tendering for mining-related goods and services, including:
i. Heavy mobile equipment and parts
ii. Processing plant components and upgrades
iii. Earthworks, mining services, and maintenance contracts
Conduct commercial evaluations, lifecycle cost analysis, and total cost of ownership (TCO) assessments
Support contract pricing reviews, variations, and renewals
Maintain contract and pricing registers specific to mining operations
4. Inventory, Spares & Supply Continuity
Analyse inventory holdings for critical spares and consumables used in gold mining operations
Support optimisation of minimum and maximum stock levels for remote mine sites
Monitor lead times for critical components to minimise production downtime
Work with site teams to forecast demand based on mining schedules and maintenance plans
5. Logistics & Remote Operations Support
Analyse transport, freight, and logistics costs for remote West Coast mining operations
Support procurement decisions related to transport modes, storage, and delivery scheduling
Identify risks associated with weather, access constraints, and supply chain disruptions
Assist in contingency planning for critical mining supplies
6. Systems, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Maintain accurate procurement and supplier data within ERP and site systems
Develop mining-specific procurement reports and dashboards for management
Support continuous improvement initiatives to streamline mine-site procurement processes
Assist in standardising procurement practices across multiple mining sites
7. Safety, Compliance & Governance
Ensure procurement activities support Westland Mining Limited’s safety, environmental, and regulatory obligations
Assist in evaluating suppliers against mining safety standards and environmental requirements
Support compliance with mining legislation, site access requirements, and contractor onboarding processes
Maintain procurement documentation to support audits and regulatory reviews
Skills & Qualifications:
At least a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Analytics, Business Management or related field. OR
Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in a similar role
Excellent negotiation, presentation, and communication skills.
Highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills
Ability to interpret complex financial and operational information and convert it into actionable advice
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Ability to manage multiple consulting engagements and meet deadlines
