Plant Head Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Plant Head with our FMCG client based in Chennai.
• Role: Plant Head
• Location: Chennai
• Reporting To: Operations Head
The Plant Head will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of plant operations, ensuring alignment with business goals. The role requires excellence in production planning, team leadership, quality control, cost efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversight of daily plant operations to meet production targets and business objectives
• Optimal utilization of manpower, machinery, and materials
• Development and implementation of production plans to drive efficiency and growth
• Maintenance of required production volume while ensuring flexibility and quality
• Minimization of downtime by optimizing manufacturing processes and implementing lean practices
• Management of operational costs, monitoring raw material usage, and reduction of wastage
• Oversight of budgets (CAPEX, OPEX) and strong financial performance (EBITDA)
• Management of the plant's Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibilities
• Implementation of cost-saving initiatives and process improvements
• Compliance with FSSAI, ISO, GMP, EHS, and other statutory regulations
• Conducting regular safety drills, audits, and risk assessments
• Leadership and mentorship of cross-functional teams across production, quality, maintenance, logistics, and HR
• Fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous learning
• Identification of skill gaps and coordination of training and development programs
• Oversight of inventory management and preventive maintenance of machinery
• Planning and execution of plant upgrades or expansions as required
• Ensure on-time delivery, product quality, and customer satisfaction
• Support new product development and integration into manufacturing
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Production, or a related field (Master's preferred)
• 15+ years of experience in plant operations, preferably in the FMCG sector
• Minimum 4 years in a plant leadership role
• Strong leadership, decision-making, and analytical skills
• Proficiency in lean manufacturing, quality systems, and regulatory compliance
• Familiarity with ERP systems and operational analytics
