Mō tō mātou rōpū | About the team

Behaviour analysis is a science that uses evidence-based methods derived from the principles of behaviour to improve socially important behaviours to a meaningful degree. It is used in a wide range of areas, including education, special education, dementia care, organisational management, parent training, occupational safety, sports psychology, brain injury rehabilitation, forensics, and clinical psychology. Additionally, behaviour analysis is often recommended as the best-practice approach for working with people with intellectual disabilities and/or neurodiversity (e.g., autism).

Worldwide demand for competent behaviour analysts exceeds current supply, especially in the education of, and remediation of behavioural problems. The Behaviour Analysis programme was the first training programme to be developed outside of the USA, and has a long history of training high-quality behaviour analysts. Our graduates are eligible to be registered as psychologists in New Zealand (the programme carries New Zealand Psychologist Board accreditation) and work in a range of areas post-graduation. Our programme also supports a number of Honours and PhD students, conducts behaviour-analytic research, and contributes to the undergraduate programme in the School of Psychology. The programme has strong community links with many services, including special schools and dementia care homes.
