Job Description

Full job description
With some exciting new projects coming online in 2026, we’re growing our local team.

We’re looking for a Project Manager to join us, working on an interesting portfolio of work in Christchurch and Canterbury. Our local team have a strong track record of delivery across regional projects and programmes of work including education, fit-out, health, industrial and government.

As a PM, you’ll get your hands on a great range of project opportunities and the chance to work with multiple teams. You’ll get to experience projects in different phases, managing everything from design to construction and getting a project to the finish line - that magic day when people walk into their new building or tamariki see their new school for the first time.

Our vision is to be the best and most trusted project specialists in Aotearoa. Whether you’re a local looking for a fresh opportunity, or if you’re relocating to the region, we’d love to hear from you.

You Matter @ TBIG

You really do! We want you to enjoy your working day and the teams around you. We’ll support your career development through our MyPath programme, which provides a planned pathway to grow your experience, and supports your journey towards a more senior role.

While you’re working hard on your career, we’ll help with some of the smaller things – like decent coffee and snacks in the pantry, lots of social times with your colleagues, and company health and well-being initiatives such as our Spring Challenge. Fancy learning basic Te Reo or upskilling around Te Tiriti o Waitangi? We give you access and time to grow personally as well as professionally.

The Canterbury region offers such great opportunities to work and play, and we encourage our team to have a balance of both.

The Role

No two days are the same, and that’s what gets our PM’s excited. You’ll be encouraged to lead, and supported in that leadership as you make project decisions.

You’ll build trust with all stakeholders and everyone in the project team.

Guide a project from go to whoa, from the initial project set up to contract administration, final delivery, and everything else in between.

Keep a firm grip on cost control alongside the project quantity surveyor – you’ll be right on top of financial reporting, estimates, cash flow and invoicing on a project.

Manage project deliverables and reporting back to client.

You’ll lead and chair meetings, minuting actions so nothing gets left undone.

Here’s what we need from you:

A professional and can-do attitude to helping support our clients and the TBIG project team.

Ability to create enthusiasm within the project environment. Getting buy in and always building trust.

A range of experience across different project types and phases in the NZ market, ideally including exposure to design management, consenting strategies, consultant and contractor procurement, construction and contract management.

An affinity for working collaboratively and collectively with project teams, working towards the same goals and reminding people of those goals when the project gets challenging.

Great communication skills and the desire to represent our brand professionally

Strong administrative skills that lend themselves to an organised and efficient project manager.

Your experience needs to include:

Minimum four years' post grad consultancy experience, construction PM or similar.

Relevant qualifications such as Building Science, Architecture, Construction PM, Engineering or Property.

You’ll bring a growing range of project experience with you, which should include vertical projects such as commercial, health, education or fitout projects, and could also include civil infrastructure project delivery.

You will have googled us by now:

And here’s what you will have found … The Building Intelligence Group (most people call us TBIG) is 100% New Zealand owned by over a quarter of our people. Our vision is to be the best and most trusted project specialists in Aotearoa. We’re right across Aotearoa, 14 locations put us in more places than any other PM company, giving you room to grow as your life changes.

Our people deliver great projects – it’s what we’ve done for over 35 years. In short, you’ll work on interesting projects, you’ll feel valued and backed, and the doors are open to promotion.
