Your role


The Project Officer (Specialist Security Systems) plays a crucial role in supporting the delivery of security infrastructure and assets across DCJ. This position is responsible for coordinating security infrastructure delivery, ensuring compliance with security standards, and providing advice on security policies and specifications.

The Security team sits within the Infrastructure & Assets branch of Corporate Services. The team is a collaborative and highly skilled unit within DCJ, dedicated to maintaining a secure and resilient environment for the customers we serve. We work across diverse security domains, including personnel, physical, and electronic security, ensuring that DCJ is well-equipped to manage emerging threats and risks.


What you’ll do


Day-to-day responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


Overseeing the maintenance and administration of electronic security systems and specialist equipment (e.g. X-Ray, Walkthrough Metal Detectors, Biometric systems etc.), ensuring their effective operation and integration.
Liaising with stakeholders to coordinate security soft services, including security guarding, patrols, and alarm monitoring as required.
Providing technical security advice to support decision-making and ensure best practices in security risk management.
Assisting in the preparation of security-related technical documents, including project briefs, plans, and security specifications.
Managing financial allocations to align security services with operational priorities and budgets.
Contributing to the development and implementation of security policies and procedures that maintain a secure working environment.

This role is pivotal in ensuring security measures remain effective, compliant, and aligned with DCJ’s security objectives.


The Specialist Security Systems team sits within broader Security team in Infrastructure & Assets branch of Corporate Services. The team is a collaborative and highly skilled unit within DCJ, dedicated to maintaining a secure and resilient environment for the customers we serve. We work across diverse security domains, including personnel, physical, and electronic security, ensuring that DCJ is well-equipped to manage emerging threats and risks.

What we’re looking for


The ideal candidate for the Project Officer (Specialist Security Systems) role will have a strong background in physical and electronic security systems, security risk management, and compliance. They will be proactive, customer service and solutions-focused, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.


Desirable qualifications and experience include:

Physical and electronic security-related qualifications, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
Experience with security systems administration, integration, and maintenance in complex environments.
Knowledge of security service contracts and soft security services (e.g., security guarding, patrols, alarming etc.)
Ability to interpret, advise on, and apply security policies, standards, and compliance frameworks.
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills to liaise with internal and external partners, including the ability to effectively communicate technical security matters to non-technical audiences where required.
Experience in technical document preparation, such as project briefs, plans, and security specifications.

A commitment to continuous learning and staying up to date with evolving security practices and technologies is essential. Candidates must also meet the security clearance requirements for the role.


Essential requirements

Possess, or have the ability to obtain, and maintain a minimum Australian Government Baseline security clearance and a favourable Criminal Records Inquiry (CRI).
Electronic security-related qualifications or demonstrated equivalent experience.
