The opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Public Affairs, the Public Affairs Assistant will contribute to the development of policy resources, public consultation submissions, communications and initiatives which support advocacy efforts for an inclusive, barrier-free society.

Responsibilities

Write government relations and advocacy-focused communications, including newsletter articles, social media posts, website content, and other resources to educate and engage MODC’s community on advocacy issues.
Conduct policy research into disability equity issues, which could include accessible, affordable housing, disability income support, supportive housing, and employment, or other issues.
Assist with the design, maintenance and reporting of stakeholder relations database.
Participate in meetings with internal and external stakeholders, which may include meetings with government officials at the federal, provincial, or municipal level.
Participate in Public Affairs team planning meetings on local and national advocacy priorities.
Provide support and coordination for MODC advocacy events and campaigns
Provide general administrative support to the Public Affairs team as needed, including calendar management, data entry, and drafting correspondence
Qualifications and experience

Currently completing or recently completed college or university, preferably in Politics, Public Affairs, Communications or a related program
Exceptional communications and written skills
Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills
Attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Ability to work in a team or independently
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, experience with Canva and databases.
Salary: $20.00 per hour

Important Details

Start Date: June 8, 2026

Duration: 8 weeks

Eligibility criteria:

Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to
Work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
Note: International students are not eligible participants.
