LHSC Radiation Safety Program
The Radiation Safety Specialist (RSS) is accountable for providing technical guidance and leading radiation safety improvement initiatives citywide across all departments utilizing radiation emitting devices. Working in collaboration with the Radiation Safety Officer, the RSS will be responsible for developing, establishing and enforcing standards and measures to ensure that the highest-level radiation safety is provided for our staff and patients and that radiation safety best practices and regulatory requirements are being met. The RSS will advise on complex issues relating to Radiation Safety; both procedural and systems, as well as developing and maintaining procedural guidelines applicable to both London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Care.
Regular Full-Time
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week (guarantee of hours)
Rate of Pay: $46.7+ per hour - $58.48 per hour
Qualifications
Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Science or related field as acceptable to the hospital
Three (3) to five (5) years of recent, relevant experience
Successful completion of a Master's Degree preferred
Five (5) years of recent, relevant experience preferred
Member of Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) preferred
Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations Certificate preferred
X-Ray Safety Officer Certificate and/or Radiation Safety Officer Certificate preferred
Demonstrated experience developing and interpreting complex regulatory documents
Knowledge of applicable legislation and acts (including Nuclear and Control Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, HARP Act)
Knowledge of Health Physics and Radiation Safety, nuclear physics principles, radiation detection instrumentation, dosimetry, effects of ionizing radiation
Demonstrated ability to balance multiple and competing priorities
Highly developed critical thinking skills with ability to conceptualize and develop solutions
Proficient Microsoft Office Suite skills including various databases
Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's vision, purpose and values
Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
