Full job description
Indira Priyadarshini School, J. P. Nagar 3rd Phase, is seeking passionate and experienced Reading Specialists to join our vibrant teaching community for Pre-Primary (K1/K2) and Middle school grades (Grades 1 to 8).
We are looking for teachers who can inspire a love for reading and language, and help in strengthening foundational literacy skills among students in Grades K–8, through engaging, age-appropriate methodologies.
The role involves supporting teachers, identifying and supporting struggling readers, conducting diagnostic assessments, promoting reading as a joyful, daily habit, and creating low-cost, high-impact reading strategies.
Will help in building phonics, oral reading fluency, comprehension and vocabulary skills, aligned with CBSE and NEP 2020 guidelines, while cultivating a school-wide reading culture.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct lesson plan-based reading and communication sessions across Kindergarten and Primary Grades.
Design and implement a structured reading program, including levels or reading bands, progressing from Picture books in Pre-Primary to Chapter Books in Primary/Middle Grades.
Use phonics-based instruction, storytelling, role-play and interactive reading strategies to build core reading skills including phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Support other ELA teachers in implementing the reading program in their classes, as also in content areas.
With assistance, administer and analyze reading assessments (e.g., DIBELS, running records, leveled reading assessments, phonics screens).
Identify and support students with reading difficulties through small-group or individual interventions.
Assess student reading levels using standardized tools and informal reading inventories and document progress, offering interventions when required.
Align interventions with CBSE’s Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) framework and NEP 2020 goals.
Organize literacy-based events such as storytelling sessions, book clubs, read-aloud weeks, book fairs and author interactions.
Help curate classroom libraries and grade-wise recommended reading lists based on student reading levels.
Encourage joyful reading through the use of storybooks, moral stories, and student-made books.
Engage parents by sharing reading goals and offering suggestions for at-home support.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in English or Education (Master’s preferred).
At least 2–3 years of classroom teaching experience in pre-primary and primary grades in a CBSE school.
Freshers with strong love for reading and motivation for learning can apply for trainee/assistant position.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Desired:
B.Ed. with a focus on English language teaching.
Familiarity with CBSE Learning Outcomes for English
Experience with or certification in phonics-based and structured literacy programs (e.g., Jolly Phonics, Orton-Gillingham, Little Wandle or similar).
Understanding of, or willingness to learn, the Science of Reading and early literacy development.
