Job Description
Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator , the Recreation Aide is responsible for designing, planning, implementing and evaluating programs and services that promote optimal physical, social, cognitive, and emotional functioning while reducing loneliness, boredom, and helplessness.

What You Will Do
Understands, supports and implements the Vision, Mission, Values, and Person Centered Care Philosophy.
Demonstrates a commitment to the physical, psychological and cultural health and safety of residents, staff, and visitors.
Performs and documents individualized assessments of client function identifying strengths, interests, and needs.
Develops, implements, and evaluates individual recreation plans based on assessment.
Plans, coordinates, and delivers individual and group programs/activities that reflect the needs and interest to meet established goals.
Ensures safe resident movement to scheduled activities.
Proficient with lifting equipment and knowledgeable about ambulation program.
Develops and posts activity calendar.
Participate in developing and managing a Volunteer program including supervision of Volunteers.
Assists with ‘Tuck Shop’ activities.
Ensures current standards are met and maintained including Accreditation Canada standards.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team, client and family to ensure that interventions and services are integrated and coordinated to ensure continuity of care.
Ensures any changes in resident condition are reported to appropriate care staff.
Participates in care planning conferences in the absence of the Recreation Therapy Supervisor.
Assists with Resident meal service, when available.
Oversees pet care committee and participates in pet care responsibilities as required.
Attends in-service education programs and staff meetings.
Knowledgeable of any health or safety hazards of equipment and materials used in activities.
Maintains security of supplies.
Reports safety hazards and malfunctioning equipment.
Promotes and maintains infection control program. Seeks advice from nursing staff on infection control and outbreak management protocols.
Participates in continuous quality improvement, safety, accreditation programs and attends team meetings as required.
Maintains current knowledge and certification as applicable to job qualifications.
Is knowledgeable about and adheres to all policies.
Performs other related duties as required.
Your Qualifications – The Must Have’s
Certificate as Gerontology Recreation Assistant or Certificate Recreation Therapy or combination of education and experience acceptable to Suncreek Village.
Current CPR certification to Level C
Current First Aide certification
Foodsafe Level One certification
WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)
BC Class 4 (unrestricted) Drivers License
