POSITION SUMMARY – Reintegration Caseworker, Program Facilitator

Reporting to the Executive Director, and in alignment with the mission, values, and principles of the John Howard Society of Manitoba, Inc. (JHSM), the Reintegration Caseworker, Program Facilitator will play a pivotal role in supporting the successful community reintegration of men aged 18 and older who are currently or have previously been in conflict with the law. This position will provide direct assistance in navigating the complexities of reintegration, fostering stability, and promoting positive outcomes through targeted support and evidence-based programming.

This position oversees and provides direction to the role of Reintegration Caseworker, Program Co-Facilitator.

PLEASE NOTE: The hours for this position are completed during the day and evenings, Monday - Friday.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - Education and Experience

A post-secondary degree from a recognized institute in a related field, such as social work, conflict resolution studies, counselling psychology, or a comparable combination of education, training and workforce experience.
Training or experience in group program facilitation and one-on-one counselling.
Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, with strong interviewing skills.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
Experience working with vulnerable individuals and individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Experience working with incarcerated individuals and/or a background in law.
Familiarity with community-based resources, including, but not limited to, housing, employment, Employment and Income Assistance (EIA), substance use, and mental health.
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
A valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License and access to a vehicle during working hours.
Must provide an up-to-date Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector search, and Adult Abuse Registry Check.
Must be cleared by Manitoba Justice to enter all correctional institutions.
Must be cleared for access to and program delivery in Stony Mountain Institution (Correctional Service Canada).
REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES

Experience working with incarcerated individuals or a background in law, criminal justice, or social services.
Knowledge of the criminal justice system, and community-based mental health and support resources.
High level of integrity and ethical behavior, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and remain resilient in a high-pressure, emotionally demanding environment.
Strong organizational and time management abilities, capable of prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines efficiently.
Consistency and attention to detail in following established processes and performing daily responsibilities.
Proactive, self-motivated problem solver with a demonstrated ability to anticipate needs and address issues independently.
High level of confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while maintaining autonomy in individual tasks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Facilitator

Facilitate Manitoba Justice community programs for groups of men, including End to Aggression, Introduction to Healthy Relationships, Coming to Terms, and Nobody’s Perfect Parenting.
Deliver individualized program sessions as needed.
Provide specialized anger management counselling and one to one support for clients, as needed.
Conduct assessments to determine appropriate program placements.
Prepare court-approved progress reports upon completion for Manitoba Justice.
Deliver presentations to institutional and community audiences.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Caseworker

Provide counselling services to clients and their family members.
Provide individualized support to clients based on their unique needs.
Assist clients with establishing bank accounts to support financial independence.
Facilitate the process for clients to obtain birth certificates by coordinating with Vital Statistics.
Connect clients with JHSM and other community programs that may support their rehabilitation and reintegration efforts.
Connect clients with community resources related to housing, employment, Employment and Income Assistance (EIA), substance use, and program support.
Establish, foster and maintain strong relationships with legal professionals, justice system stakeholders, probation officers, and parole officers to enhance service accessibility.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with community organizations to enhance referral networks.
Develop and maintain strong communication with institutional staff and management.
Collaborate with institutional staff to create and implement reintegration and release plans.
Manage clothing donations and distribution for men in need; maintain an organized clothing closet.
Maintain hygiene kits for both community members and incarcerated men.
Maintain detailed client records and ensure client files are current and accurate.
Collect and analyze statistical data to support program development and reporting for JHS and Manitoba Justice.
Enhance tracking systems to improve data collection and reporting for provincial government funding and JHS operations.
Participate in organizational and program-specific professional development opportunities.
Supervise the Reintegration Caseworker, Program Co-Facilitator, ensuring effective program delivery.
