The Ocean Modelling Research Scientist will be a member of the Ocean Modelling Team in the Research Program. The Ocean Modelling Team is responsible for advancing the science and development of the ocean, wave and sea-ice components of the Bureau’s Earth System models across all spatial and temporal scales.
You will be responsible for the implementation and evaluation of the global ocean model to the Bureau and research HPC systems and provide support for modelling systems that underpin current operational services.
The position involves conducting research, both independently and under guidance, to develop and evaluate the developed systems.
The Ocean Modelling Research Scientist will:
Design and undertake novel assessments and analysis concepts, under supervision, of the global and regional ocean models and forecast systems.
Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals, technical or research reports and present results at scientific forums – documentation can include manuals or operational bulletins and recognition in research to operations gateway processes.
Apply knowledge of High-Performance Computing technology applicable to relevant modelling systems to achieve results.
Work successfully in a team to deliver project outcomes, whilst also developing and testing individual ideas.
Clearly communicate and document scientific and technical matters to a wide range of internal and external collaborators and stakeholders.
Engage in collaborative activities within the UM Partnership Global Model Evaluation and Development program, as well as other significant national and international collaborations.
