Experienced Social Worker: Pioneer Trauma-Informed Care in Wellington

Barnardos Aotearoa is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Social Worker to empower rangatahi (young people) through innovative trauma-informed practices at our specialist group Whare in Wellington.

This role is part time and 20 per week, with the occasional on-call duty.

Your Impact

Design and implement personalized care plans using trauma-informed methodologies
Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify individual needs and strengths
Spearhead transformative group programs addressing topics such as anger management, substance abuse prevention, and healthy relationships
Provide one-on-one counseling and support to rangatahi
Foster vital connections between rangatahi, whānau, Residential Youth Workers, schools, and community support networks
Participate in case reviews and contribute to ongoing program development
Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records and reports
Respond to crisis situations as part of the on-call rotation

Your Qualifications

Full SWRB (Social Workers Registration Board) registration with current Annual Practicing Certificate (essential)
Bachelor's degree in Social Work or equivalent (required)
3+ years youth social work experience, preferably in residential or trauma-informed settings (preferred)
Expertise in trauma-informed care practices and attachment theory
Proficiency in applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and working with diverse cultures
Strong understanding of child protection legislation and procedures
Residential care experience (advantageous)
Valid driver's license and ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends


Essential Skills and Attributes

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with young people
Strong emotional resilience and ability to work in challenging environments
Cultural competence and commitment to bi-cultural practice
Proficient in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
Skilled in collaborative teamwork and interdisciplinary cooperation
Competent in using case management software and Microsoft Office suite
