The Opportunity:

NEO classification $126,618 per annum pro rata + 12% super + leave loading (dependent on qualifications and experience)
Chadstone Campus – onsite parking with close proximity to public transport
The Student Wellbeing Department is dedicated to championing the health, safety and overall wellbeing of Holmesglen students, creating a supportive environment where every learner can thrive. From short-term counselling and mental health support to crisis intervention, our services span all campuses to ensure students have access to care when they need it most. Beyond individual support, the department leads a range of targeted welfare programs that address critical student needs—including financial assistance, housing support, food security and access to health services like bulk-billed GP appointments. By working closely with internal departments and community partners, we help students build resilience, stay connected, and have a fulfilling educational experience.
The Safer Community Manager is a key leadership role responsible for safeguarding student and community wellbeing across Holmesglen. You will lead responses to complex and sensitive matters including ****** harm, family and domestic violence, and child safety concerns. Using advanced clinical expertise, you will drive trauma-informed risk assessment, safety planning and decision-making, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice. Acting as the central authority for high-risk matters, you will coordinate responses and provide expert advice to senior leaders. Working across Counselling, Welfare, Disability Support and academic teams, you will strengthen systems, governance and prevention initiatives to enhance safety outcomes across the Institute.
As a Safer Community Manager, you will:
Act as the authoritative point of contact for disclosures relating to ****** harm, child safety, family and domestic violence and other concerning behaviours, leading assessment, coordination and escalation of high-risk matters and providing expert advice to senior leaders on risk management and institutional response.
Ensure responses are consistent, trauma-informed and procedurally fair, applying advanced clinical understanding of trauma, vulnerability, neurodiversity and psychosocial risk to balance individual support needs with community safety obligations. Provide leadership and oversight of Holmesglen’s Child Safety responsibilities, ensuring compliance with Child Safe Standards, mandatory reporting obligations and relevant legislation.
Act as a key advisor on child safety matters, guiding staff on identification, reporting and management of concerns, and supporting continuous improvement of related systems, policies and training across the Institute.
Lead the development, implementation and continuous refinement of the Safer Community framework, ensuring alignment with sector best practice, government policy and regulatory requirements.
To be successful, you’ll have:
Post-graduate qualifications in psychology, counselling, social work or related mental health discipline
Full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA), or Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or Australian Psychological Society (APS) or Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) or similar accrediting body.
Demonstrated clinical background in counselling, psychology, social work or related disciplines, with extensive experience applying evidence based clinical frameworks to complex case coordination, risk assessment and safety planning in sensitive and high-risk environments.
Proven expertise in trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches, particularly when working with vulnerable populations, ensuring responses are ethical, developmentally appropriate and grounded in sound clinical judgement.
Strong capacity to exercise initiative, analyse complex and sensitive matters objectively, and make well-reasoned recommendations, seeking advice where appropriate while maintaining accountability in high-risk situations.
Current Victoria Driver’s licence.
WWCC and Police Check: Appointment to this position is dependent on obtaining a Victorian ‘employee’ Working with Children Check, and a valid Police Check within the last 12 months.
