Key Roles & Responsibilities
Gather information about municipal assets, such as road conditions, culverts, utilities, signs, and other infrastructure elements.
Accurately document asset conditions using handheld devices, spreadsheets, and/or databases.
Conduct visual inspections of assets in the field to assess their condition and report any deficiencies or required maintenance.
Enter collected data into a centralized database and verify the accuracy of all information.
Work closely with other municipal staff to ensure data is correctly aligned with municipal asset management goals.
Perform work in varying weather conditions, on foot, or using municipal vehicles, to access and assess assets throughout the municipality.
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in field data collection or municipal work is preferred but not required.
Map reading skills and working knowledge of Geographical Positioning System (GPS) & Geographic Information System (GIS) – Asset
Able to use Mobile devices such as GPS and tablets.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform tasks that require moderate physical activity, such as walking, lifting, and standing for long periods.
Valid class 5 driver’s license is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
Must be self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The ability to deal with the public effectively and courteously is required.
Working Conditions & Physical Environment
Work is performed at various outdoor work sites within the County.
Use and operation of pickup truck.
Exposure to outdoor conditions.
Dust and fumes.
Normal work week is 36.25 hours, but occasional overtime may be required. A full work week is not always guaranteed if weather conditions make it difficult or unsafe to work. On such days, other duties may be available, but they are not guaranteed.
Health & Safety
All personnel working at Big Lakes County are governed by the County’s Health & Safety Policy.
Ensures all operations are conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with County Policies and Occupational Health & Safety Regulations.
Required to wear correct P.P.E as per safe job procedures.
Must check in as per Working Alone legislation.
Must follow all safe job procedures.
