Job Description
As an Alberta Education-designated special education independent school for over 40 years, Edmonton Academy has provided a high standard of specialized teaching to meet the needs of our students with mild specific learning disorders/learning disabilities. All our students from grades 3-12 require teachers with energy, enthusiasm and empathy when teaching and supporting their learning. Each teacher is expected to use multimodalities for instructing our students and must be able to differentiate their teaching and the learning expectations as needed. Teachers will be provided with school-based professional development to understand how our individualized approach allows our students to achieve academic success, despite their specific learning differences in literacy and numeracy. All of our teachers must be prepared to offer a range of evidence-based accommodations and specialized strategies that we provide within the course and curriculum area they teach. We recognize that overall student success involves meeting our students’ academic, social, and emotional needs while working to build their independence and resilience as learners. Learning to meet the whole child is created through ******** instruction and high levels of active engagement that have been facilitated using clear routines, expectations and visual supports. Willingness to learn various technologies, such as setting up and using Google Classroom, Chromebooks, assistive technology (Google Read and Write), Viewsonics/Smartboards, and educational websites, eg, Classroom Screen, Gimkit, etc., is an important skill required of our staff.
The individuals must currently hold a Bachelor of Secondary Education degree and a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate. Please do not apply if you don't meet these mandatory requirements. We thank all applicants for their interest, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
