The Role:
As a strategic and relational person, the position of Secondary School Coordinator will assist the Head of College and College Coordinator to enable the flourishing of Secondary students in the pursuit of excellent education, intentional pastoral care and connected community.
Peregian Beach College acknowledges the critical role of school leaders in developing a wellbeing culture across the school community, which draws links between student wellbeing and improved learning outcomes.
In conjunction with the Head of College and College Coordinator, the Secondary School Coordinator ensures the academic and pastoral needs of students are met, and teachers deliver a rigorous academic program combined with an evidence-based student wellbeing curriculum that aligns with the whole school strategic approach.
The Secondary School Coordinator is recognised and respected by colleagues, parents and community members, as an exemplary teacher. They have demonstrated consistent and innovative student academic and wellbeing practices and the ability to initiate and lead programs that focus on improving educational opportunities for all students. They are well respected in their ability to implement and to have oversight of the innovative student learning and wellbeing curriculum. They continue to seek ways to improve their own professional practice and to share their experience with colleagues. They are skilled in mentoring teachers, using targeted interventions that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others. They promote creative, innovative thinking and professional practice among colleagues.
The Secondary School Coordinator for Peregian Beach College reports to the College Coordinator and works in the strongest of partnerships with the Inclusive Education Coordinator and the Guidance Counsellors.
The Secondary School Coordinator plays a pivotal role supporting the Head of College and the College Coordinator by assisting them to effectively manage student wellbeing and pastoral care, and the successful implementation of the academic program.
This is a 0.8 non-teaching role with a 0.2 teaching component equating to a 1.0 FTE position. A PAR Level 1 allowance also applies.
Selection Criteria:
Have recognised tertiary qualifications in Teaching.
Be a qualified teacher with QCT registration.
Communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, colleagues and the community.
Have an understanding of students and how they learn.
Have knowledge and experience with the Australian Curriculum.
Proven interpersonal qualities and skills necessary for close co-operation with the College Leadership, members of staff, parents, students and other members of the school community.
Proven ability to work collaboratively and energetically within a dynamic organisation.
Possess self-motivation, creative endeavour and a willingness to accept responsibility.
Knowledge of current trends in education (especially that of adolescent students) and education generally.
Be proactive/show initiative.
Outstanding professional presentation and manner.
Possess excellent written communication skills.
Be committed to one’s own continued self-improvement through professional learning.
