Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated History and Social Science Educator to join our team at the Turlock Unified School District. As a Secondary Teacher - Social Studies, you will be responsible for teaching one or more classes of social studies to pupils in grades +-12 and assisting in other school programs as assigned.
Responsibilities
Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. Plan and guide discussions of current social, political, and economic problems against the background of geographical environment and history of area being studied. Develop knowledge of the purpose, structure, and operation of the American governmental and economic system, and the rights and responsibilities of American citizenship. Encourage pupils to become aware of the complexity and interrelations of local, state, national, and world problems. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment. Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
Qualifications
A valid General Secondary or Standard Secondary credential issued on a partial fulfillment basis. A Bachelor's degree with a major in history or the social sciences, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements. At least two years of full-time teaching experience, at least half of which must be in social studies instruction. Or, six semester units or 120 clock hours of practice teaching.
