Purpose
Expanse Learning Wigan School is looking to appoint a qualified English Teacher to deliver a broad English curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4, including Functional Skills, Entry Level, and GCSE English. The ideal candidate will have experience of working with students with SEND and a passion for inclusive, creative literacy education.
Main Responsibilities
1. Specialist Teaching and Learning Responsibilities
§ Plan and deliver creative, engaging, and differentiated English lessons tailored to SEND learners.
§ Use assessment tools effectively (e.g., Boxall Profiles) to inform teaching and support both academic and emotional development.
§ Promote literacy development and a love of reading and writing through diverse, accessible teaching methods.
§ Create a safe, structured, and stimulating learning environment.
2. Advocacy and Collaboration
§ Act as a form tutor and advocate for pupils learning, emotional, and social needs.
§ Contribute to a personalised curriculum that integrates communication, life skills, and emotional wellbeing.
§ Work collaboratively with therapists, TAs, and external specialists to support individual learning pathways.
3. School and Professional Development
§ Take part in whole-school improvement and curriculum development projects.
§ Engage in ongoing CPD and performance development reviews.
§ Be open to mentoring, peer observations, and reflective practice.
4. Behaviour Management and Student Support
§ Follow school-wide approaches to positive behaviour support.
§ Monitor and record attendance, punctuality, and behaviour data as required.
§ Support pupils in developing self-regulation and confidence in communication.
5. Administrative and Pastoral Duties
§ Maintain a well-organised classroom and manage resources effectively.
§ Liaise with families and external professionals to ensure holistic support for students.
§ Record progress accurately and contribute to EHCP reviews and annual reports.
