Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic PSHE & General Subjects Teacher to work across Key Stages 3 and 4. This role will focus on delivering high-quality PSHE lessons (including RSE, wellbeing, independence, and citizenship), alongside broader general subjects such as life skills, project-based learning, and thematic curriculum areas. The successful candidate will be committed to preparing students for adulthood by developing their confidence, resilience, and independence.

Main Responsibilities
1. Specialist Teaching and Learning Responsibilities

§ Deliver well-planned, differentiated PSHE and general subjects lessons tailored to the needs of learners with SEND.

§ Support students in developing key personal and social skills, such as emotional regulation, relationships, personal safety, health, and self-advocacy.

§ Incorporate Functional Skills, communication, and cross-curricular themes where appropriate.

§ Use data and assessment tools such as Boxall Profiles and engagement scales to monitor progress and inform planning.

2. Advocacy and Collaboration

§ Act as a form tutor and be an advocate for pupils social, emotional, and academic progress.

§ Collaborate with therapists, TAs, and external professionals to support student development holistically.

§ Promote a positive, respectful learning environment that values diversity, individuality, and inclusion.

3. School and Professional Development

§ Contribute to the continued development of the schools PSHE programme and broader curriculum offer.

§ Take part in staff training, supervision, and whole-school development opportunities.

§ Be proactive in sharing good practice and engaging with CPD and performance management systems.

4. Behaviour Management and Student Support

§ Uphold high expectations for behaviour and emotional wellbeing through positive, trauma-informed approaches.

§ Contribute to behaviour support planning and provide consistent, caring responses to challenging behaviour.

§ Monitor attendance and punctuality in line with school policies and liaise with pastoral staff where needed.

5. Administrative and Pastoral Duties

§ Contribute to the writing of annual reviews, EHCPs, progress reports, and incident records as appropriate.

§ Develop strong, supportive relationships with parents and carers, promoting open and effective communication.

§ Organise learning environments and resources that promote engagement and independence.

6. General Responsibilities

§ Commit to safeguarding students and following all statutory guidance and school policy.

§ Take responsibility for continuous personal and professional development.

§ Contribute to wider school activities, enrichment programmes, and curriculum flexibility to meet individual needs.

Your Qualifications / Skills & Knowledge
§ QTS/QTLS and a recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE or equivalent).

§ Experience of teaching PSHE and/or general subjects in a SEND or inclusive setting.

§ Strong understanding of safeguarding, British Values, and RSE statutory requirements.

§ Excellent classroom management skills with a person-centred approach.

§ Knowledge of SEMH needs, autism, and other common SEND profiles.

§ Confident using assessment frameworks and monitoring progress holistically.

§ Ability to adapt content to a wide range of learner needs and EHCP outcomes.

Essential Requirements
§ Minimum GCSE grade 5 in English and Maths (or equivalent).

§ Understanding of the Education Inspection Framework in the context of special schools.

§ Experience working with external agencies (e.g., CAMHS, social care, health services).

§ Knowledge of trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches to teaching and support.
