Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, supporting grant compliance, and contributing to budgeting and audit activities. This role requires expertise in fund accounting, donor restrictions, and compliance with GAAP and relevant federal and state regulations for non-profits. The Senior Accountant collaborates with program managers, finance staff, and leadership team to promote financial transparency and responsible stewardship of funds. Key responsibilities include managing the general ledger, preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, and supporting audits and financial planning efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
General Ledger Management: Oversee the general ledger, ensuring timely and accurate recording of all financial transactions in accordance with GAAP.
Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; perform variance analysis and ensure completeness and accuracy.
Account Reconciliation: Reconcile all balance sheet accounts, promptly identifying and resolving discrepancies.
Fund Accounting & Grant Management: Manage restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring compliance with donor, grant, and audit requirements. Track expenditures and support financial reporting.
Month-End & Year-End Close: Lead the closing processes, ensuring all entries are complete and financials are finalized within set deadlines.
Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in preparing and monitoring the annual budget; provide analysis to ensure financial performance aligns with projections.
Internal Controls: Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
Audit Support: Prepare documentation for internal and external audits and respond to auditor inquiries.
Tax Compliance: Support the preparation of tax filings (e.g., income tax, sales tax), ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Fixed Asset Management: Manage fixed assets, including tracking, depreciation, and disposals.
Financial Analysis: Deliver financial insights and analysis, including performance metrics, cash flow analysis, and cost control recommendations.
Team Leadership: Mentor junior accounting staff, offering training, guidance, and performance feedback.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience with a solid understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Proven experience in financial reporting, general ledger management, and month-end close processes.
In-depth knowledge of GAAP and financial regulations; nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
Familiarity with tax laws and regulatory compliance is a plus.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
High attention to detail and a strong commitment to financial accuracy and integrity.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
