Junior Achievement of Michigan Great Lakes (JAMGL) is seeking a Senior Accountant to manage all the accounting functions and building operations. You will perform general accounting while anticipating the needs of Senior Management and the board and supervise an accounting, data entry, and HR clerk.
What you will do:
• Perform general accounting duties and other related duties in the accounting department.
• Prepare monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
• Maintain the general ledger in QuickBooks (currently, migrating to Sage this fiscal year).
• Code invoices, set up new accounts, reconcile accounts, and close the monthly books.
• Reconcile bank accounts monthly, verify deposits, and address inquiries from banks.
• Manage accounts receivable collections and reconcile customer accounts.
• Verify payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensure accurate account allocation.
• Manage the annual budget preparation in collaboration with senior leadership.
• Coordinate with auditors to facilitate the annual audit and other required filings.
• File necessary tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
• Coordinate with software vendors to maintain and enhance accounting software.
• Manage HR processes in Workday.
• Oversee internal IT issues with IT contractors and manage building vendors.
What we are looking for:
• You have a minimum of four (4) years of accounting experience.
• A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline is preferred.
• Accounting experience in the nonprofit industry is a plus but not required.
• You possess extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and a thorough understanding of the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• You are detail-oriented and organized. You prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and excel under pressure.
• With your effective communication and interpersonal skills, you work collaboratively with employees of all levels.
• You work with minimal guidance, take ownership of your work, and hold your team members accountable.
• You are proficient with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
