Job Description

Mala’la Health Service is seeking an experienced Family Support Practitioner/ Social Worker to join our dynamic, multi-disciplinary team in Maningrida, NT. The Family Support Practitioner will work alongside families referred to our Family & Community Wellness Service, to identify worries, responses to trauma and preferred pathways for healing in the context of the family group and extended kinship networks. The work will be engaged in culturally safe ways that promote individual and collective agencies.


Guided by the knowledge and insights of our Aboriginal Family Wellness Workers, the Family Support Practitioner will provide therapeutic and intensive support through a relationally orientated, culturally responsive, trauma informed practice approach. This role will also ensure that the case management elements of our work with families are competently carried out and respectfully documented.


The successful applicant will have access to a range of benefits, including:

Attractive Salary of $96,000 - $102,500 per annum depending on qualifications and experience
12% Superannuation
$6,000 Travel Allowance FOIL per year
$2,500 Retention Allowance per year
6 weeks annual leave with 17.5% leave loading
Ability to salary package up to $15,900 per annum, plus a further $2,650 per annum on Meals and Entertainment
Fully subsidized single accommodation provided
FIFO arrangement available
Relocation Allowance available

About Mala’la

Mala’la Health Service is a respected & accredited Aboriginal Corporation providing services to the seaside community of Maningrida (520 km east of Darwin), with a population of approximately 3,500 people. These services include Primary Health Care, Aged & Community Care, Family & Community Wellness, Drugs & ******* Services.


Essential Requirements

The role will see you working in a remote Aboriginal Community. All applicants must have an understanding of, and commitment to Aboriginal Community Control, self-determination, and the issues faced by Aboriginal people living in remote settings.

Relevant qualifications in social work, counselling or other human service areas
Experience working with children and families who are responding to trauma or at risk of being involved with the child protection system
Current registration with corresponding professional body
Experience with working alongside Aboriginal people in a culturally respectful way
Case management experience, including the upkeep of the administrative components
Well-developed competency in computer skills with sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs and database systems such as Communicare
Satisfactory Criminal History Check
Current NT Working with Children Clearance OCHRE card
Current Driver’s Licence
