This Database Administrator Level 2 role will be responsible for supporting SQL Server databases running on Premises and Cloud AWS RDS & EC2 infrastructure. The DBA must be able to provide management of database-related Windows platform components at the server hardware and software level and have extensive experience with current versions of Microsoft SQL Server. The support in these database environments includes software installation, creation of new instances, upgrades, migrations, backup and recovery, performance monitoring, security, reporting services, and general day to day database administration tasks.
With a degree of change at Condé Nast, this role will need to ensure alignment with the enterprise's business strategy and the delivery of capabilities required to achieve business success.
This individual will have strong communication skills, solid technical infrastructure experience focused on database technologies. Will need to be a strong team player in an international team spread across HQs, hub and market locations
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
• Act as technical and business domain subject-matter specialist to other groups and markets for all systems supported globally by the Database team
• Strong proficiency in PostgreSQL and MSSQL Server. Knowledge of another RDBMS systems like PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle is a plus as secondary
• Knowledge in AWS-RDS database administration and AWS Database Migration Service (AWS DMS)
• Build database systems of high availability and quality depending on each end user’s specialised role.
• Install, configure, and maintain database instances and processes. Setup database cluster's and replications
• Setup and manage Always On Availability Groups
• Monitor system's health and performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required
• Ensure high levels of performance, availability, sustainability and security
• Analyse, solve, and correct issues in real time
• Minimise database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses
• Assist developers with query tuning and schema refinement
• Maintain, manage, and support database Backups and Recovery with manual or automated processes to meet business requirements work to a global standard
• Perform data extraction, transformation, and loading operation when needed
• Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours
• Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
• Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum 5 years of IT experience in Database Administration, Design Development and Support of MS SQL Server in production, test, development, and High Availability environments
• BA/BS in Computer Science, Maths, Physics, or another technical field
• Good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with teams in different time zones and geographies. Should be fluent in English language
• Excellent troubleshooting, problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically
• Experience performing database upgrades and maintenance including on Cloud AWS RDS & EC2
• Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity and SQL
• Experience to setup and manage database cluster, replications, Always On Availability Groups
• Experience with SSRS, Power BI, and other analytical tool sets
• Should have good experience of automation – PowerShell scripting
• Excellent performance and tuning skills
• Experience of implementing and maintaining robust monitoring and reporting systems such as Solarwinds and Datadog
• High level of documentation skills
• Ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with co-workers, managers and colleagues within the business.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a fast-moving, rapidly changing environment
• Experience working with a geographically dispersed, culturally varied team & customer base
• Must excel working in team environment
