Overview
We are seeking a Senior Fashion Designer with over 6 years of experience in western womenswear and unisex silhouettes, who is deeply inspired by materiality, form, and future trends. The ideal candidate will bring a refined, global design eye while also resonating with Kochi Kochu’s commitment to craftsmanship, sustainability, and cultural storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
Design Direction- Lead the design and development of seasonal collections that merge western silhouettes with Indian-inspired color palettes, artisanal details, and modern luxury aestheticsDevelop cohesive mood boards, color stories, and fabric concepts for each drop
Trend & Forecasting Analysis- Conduct continuous research on global fashion trends, slow fashion evolution, silhouettes, and color theory using platforms like WGSN, Pinterest, and fashion week dataAdapt macro trends into Kochi Kochu’s brand DNA—balancing trend with timelessness
Technical Development & Sampling Oversight- Collaborate closely with the production team and master-jis to translate designs into wearable, technically sound garmentsFinalize tech packs including fabric specs, construction notes, embroidery guides, and trimsEnsure fit, drape, and finish meet premium standards during sampling rounds
Material Knowledge & Sustainability- Work with Indian textiles such as khadi, linen, handwoven silks, and block-printed cottonSource and experiment with sustainable fabrics and explore innovative surface techniques that elevate craft without compromising comfort
Team & Vendor Collaboration- Coordinate with pattern makers, tailors, and embroidery units in India to bring designs to lifeCommunicate clearly with remote marketing and design teams for campaign ideation and styling directions
Ideal Candidate
6+ years of experience in womenswear, contemporary western design, or luxury fashion
Strong grasp of silhouettes, draping, layering, and versatile garment construction
Skilled in Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop), CLO 3D or similar tools
Deep interest in slow fashion, artisan-led work, and multicultural design language
Past experience working with boutique brands or startups is a plus
Familiarity with sustainable fashion frameworks and materials
Soft Traits
Aesthetic sensitivity with a strategic design mindset
Open to collaboration with artisans, willing to spend time on the production floor
Curious, detailed, and trend-forward without being trend-obsessed
Thrives in creative chaos but brings structured execution
