KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Reporting to and under the direction of the Head of Labour Relations and Occupational Health and Safety, this role serves as a key member within the Labour Relations Department, providing leadership and strategic advice to our internal clients ranging from senior level administration, management, and supervisory staff to support organizational effectiveness and goal achievement.

The Labour Relations Coordinator will work with both the bargaining units and non-unionized employees to foster a climate of positive and collaborative labour relations.

Work to improve the labour relations function and provide leadership and advice relating to all labour relations matters including grievance decisions, arbitrations, human rights, and collective bargaining
Supports leaders at all levels of the organization in partnership to resolve complex issues that impact the service delivery of the organization
Maintain and build positive relationships and trust with all employee groups both Union and Non-Union
Provide expert advice, support, and consultation on a broad range of employee and labour relations matters to management staff
Lead meetings with union officials for the purpose of dealing with union complaints and grievances, taking appropriate actions to ensure management rights are upheld and preparing responses as required
Provide expert advice and guidance regarding the administration, interpretation, and application of collective agreements, and the handling of complaints and/or grievances for both union and non-union staff
Provide guidance and support to the Human Resource Services Department on Labour Relations issues to continually improve the delivery of Human Resource Services to Administration and Board employees
Perform other duties as assigned or required
REQUIREMENTS:

Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business, Law, or related discipline
A minimum of four (4) years' experience in Human Resources, in a complex and highly unionized environment
Public education sector experience is considered an asset
Experience with interpretation of collective agreements, contract administration, and grievance/ arbitration preparation
Training, knowledge and experience in managing workplace investigations
A history of successful, positive, union-management relationships, and the ability to create a cooperative and consultative approach to achieving goals and objectives which includes dispute resolution
Demonstrated, exceptional negotiation and mediation skills
A working knowledge of labour, employment, and education law and all relevant legislations
Ability to work both interdependently and independently; self-motivated
Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor, guide and develop others
Presentation, report writing, oral and written communication skills
Sound judgement, analytical, problem-solving skills, decision making, and organizational skills
This is a non-union Level 6 position with a salary range of $116,814 - $140,173 along with comprehensive benefits including pension plan, vacation, and professional development opportunities.
