Job Description
The team are currently looking for a Senior Legal Counsel, ideally specialising in consumer credit. You will be instrumental in providing specialist advice on matters including strategic business initiatives and regulatory changes. You will be a strong communicator, be able to collaboratively and effectively work with other stakeholders and have extensive experience advising financial institutions preferably on consumer credit related matters, either in house or in private practice.
About the role
Provide specialist legal and compliance advice on a range of issues, most particularly consumer credit and retail banking initiatives and projects, and work with external counsel where required.
Review and advise on proposed changes to IMB’s lending documentation.
Review and negotiate contracts with third parties where required.
Review and advise on product and marketing material where required.
Assist with the maintenance of IMB’s compliance frameworks, including obligations registers.
Provide advice in relation to regulatory matters, including advising on breaches and remediations where required.
About you
Tertiary qualifications in law
At least 10 years post qualification experience either in house or in private practice, ideally specialising in consumer credit.
Strong technical skills and the ability to advise on complex legislative requirements and issues, within required timeframes.
Be an effective communicator and build strong relationships with key stakeholders.
The ability to provide quality advice, in practical terms.
A commitment to working as a valued member of the wider Legal and Compliance department and mentoring more junior staff where appropriate.
