In the moment, for the future
At Genesis, we’re always looking ahead – to smarter solutions, sharper insights, and a more sustainable energy future for Aotearoa New Zealand. Every role here plays a part in shaping what’s next, whether through data-led decision-making, innovative thinking, or everyday excellence. If you’re motivated by impact and enjoy turning analysis into action, this is your chance to be part of something meaningful.
This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity.
What you’ll do
As a Senior LPG Asset Engineer, you’ll play a key role in progressing a number of large-scale Natural Gas (NG) to LPG industrial conversion projects as part of our Enterprise Partnerships and Technical Delivery programme. This is a hands-on, technically senior role where you’ll lead the detailed engineering required to take conversion opportunities from Class-5 concept through to delivery-ready, contract-stage designs.
You’ll work closely with Enterprise customers, project managers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to deliver safe, compliant, reliable, and commercially sound outcomes. When not engaged in conversion projects, you’ll also support LPG BAU activities within the LPG Asset Management Team.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
Lead feasibility and early-stage engineering for NG to LPG conversions, including P&IDs, system layouts, technical scopes, cost estimates, and concept development.
Validate customer gas usage, demand profiles, and load assumptions to size LPG storage, vaporisation, and delivery solutions.
Develop preliminary and detailed design packages that progress opportunities to delivery-ready, contract-stage designs.
Provide technical leadership and assurance across design, delivery, commissioning, handover, and alignment to LPG Asset Management practices.
Support supplier engagement, tendering, and procurement, including technical evaluations and input into contractor selection.
Govern third-party engineering and construction, reviewing and accepting deliverables to Genesis standards, and ensuring documentation/compliance records are operation-ready.
Lead process safety, compliance, and risk activities (hazard identification, risk assessments, safety reviews) and ensure installations are compatible with bulk LPG logistics and delivery.
What you’ll bring
You’re an experienced engineer who is comfortable working across complex industrial environments and multiple stakeholders. You bring strong technical judgement, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to progress projects from concept through to execution readiness—balancing technical excellence with commercial outcomes.
You’ll also bring:
A tertiary qualification in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or similar).
8+ years’ engineering experience in LPG, natural gas, or industrial energy infrastructure.
Proven experience delivering feasibility studies and contributing to preliminary and detailed engineering design.
Strong knowledge of NZ regulatory frameworks including HSNO, AS/NZS 1596, HSWA, and ideally familiarity with PECPR and ACoPPE.
Experience engaging with equipment suppliers, contractors, and engineering consultants in regulated/hazardous environments.
Sound understanding of engineering risk management and process safety assurance (HAZID/HAZOP experience is an advantage).
Clear communication skills and confidence working with senior stakeholders and customers.
The ability to work collaboratively, take ownership, and deliver outcomes with pace and discipline.
How we’ll help you thrive
At Genesis, we know that every moment matters – it’s not just about the mahi today, it’s about setting you up for long-term success.
Some of our benefits include:
Southern Cross medical insurance, plus life, trauma and income protection.
Electricity and gas discounts, plus 20 free Power Shout hours each year.
Up to 4% KiwiSaver matching (or 3% with our GenSaver allowance).
Flexible working and leave options to support balance and wellbeing.
Annual wellbeing allowance and access to Best Doctors for you and your whānau.
Career development opportunities within a collaborative, data-driven environment.
We’re proud of our inclusive culture, where safety, wellbeing, and diverse perspectives are valued.
